I hate putting

Amen, I'm with you brother. I can't putt if my life depended on it. My distance control is terrible and I struggle reading greens. Basically everything is terrible.

Confidence certainly helps but to become confidant you need a solid repeatable technique. How often do you practice?

Nerves got to me yesterday for sure - v easy and putter on the practice green today. I hardly ever actually schedule practice with the putter apart from on the course. Have to change that if I want to stop it being the weak link in my game...

Good girl.
The rest of the game must be coming together ?

Sure is. Striking it better than ever tee to green. Started with a birdie yesterday on the very tough first and numerous other birdie putts I lagged from 6 feet!! Encouraging though to play to handicap in my first qualifier at a new course - just had to remember to breathe!!

i don't really enjoy doing it, and not very good at it either, no coincidence
the short testy 5 foot and in are the ones that get me

i see holing longish putts as luck rather than skill so don't really take much satisfaction from it, unlike a drive out the screws or a pured iron

i wish i could putt!

I'm in same boat
I know it's holding me back too
My problem is just leaving most putts 6-9" short
Played yesterday, local track with 2 lads off here, shot +4 (75) , (h/cap 8.7) , with 34 putts , had 11 Birdie (putts) chances , but only made 4 Birdies
Saying this, the course we played (Sharpley) has the craziest greens in the county.....!!

Love putting, great part of the game (not to mention that no-one can out-distance me on a green)

Seem to be pretty consistent at judging distance & line (unless the green has a grain on it)

I have to say I'm the complete opposite.

I'm a pretty godd putter despite my handicap and regularly only take around the 30 putt mark (32 last weekend). Including this little gem, about 20ft across a slope with about 2ft of break) for birdie on a 203 yard par 3 (If you look closely, you can see the line of the putt in the dew on the grass)

I'll quite often spend an hour or two on the practice putting green at the range fliting between lag putting and holing out from iside 6 feet. I enjoy the challege.

Often when I go with a few fiends they will smash 100+ balls with there driver (while I'll work through my pro's drills) and wonder why, when we play at the weekend, they struggle to hole out on the greens despite hitting pretty good tee shots.

Putting makes up quite a few strokes in your round. IMHO the better putter you become the better player (I.E Lower handicap). Being a good driver of a ball, while impressive, doens't always yeild the same results.

Just my opinion mind you :D

Obviously it depends on how far they are, but how many of 11 birdie putts do you think you should make? Especially on 'crazy greens'.
