OK ,,hears my problem ,,I'm the first to say I'm not mentally clever meaning my focus is about 3 seconds (OK i admit it I'm a fish) then my mind wanders ,the set up thinking is fine, i no what the ball lie is like, witch club to use ,how to set up to the ball & i do trust my swing
my problem is sometimes 1 second before i hit the ball when I'm then fully committed to the take back something will pop in my head ,,like what the misses said earlier or something else thats happened that week ,,,it also happens when i read a book ,,Ive got to switch my brain of some how

i need to train my brain to stay focused on what I'm doing ,,how do you stay focus at the crucial moment witch then will give a better score

i have the shots about 60% of the time the 40% is in other thoughts

any idea's would be grateful

You may benefit from some generic non-technical swing thought to focus on and help keep other thoughts out.

You could also try some psychological exercises working on improving your focus, concentration and attention to see if they work for you. You might find some stuff on nlp's (I think that's the term) out there.

You may consider incorporating breathing, centering, imagery, self talk into a pre shot routine (if you don't have a routine it might be worth developing and practicing one).

Maybe you need to break things up into chunks with allowance for you mind wandering and then bringing it back.

Walk up to your ball, assess the lie and distance, choose your club.
Allow mind to wander.
Pull focus back to game.
Take stance and swing at the ball.
Allow mind to wander far and wide as you do the same hunting for you ball.

Simples! :)

best thing I have seen for this, is to do some tempo style work. For example on your backswing think a 2 syllable word and then coming back through say a 1 syllable word. So for example you would say Tiger on your back swing and as you start coming down you say Woods, this should get you thinking about the name you choose rather than anything else.

interesting ,,with some of these idea's you can tell witch are the hacker & witch make the scores,,its easy to take part,,hard to be at the top,,,cheers anyway

i think i may be pausing to long before striking the ball

In the old days when I'd have 2395 separate swing thoughts going on per shot there wouldn't have been room to jam another totally unrelated on in there. these days thanks to a lot of work on tempo, reading Rotella books and the pearls of wisdom from the great and the good on here I try and focus on one swing thought per round and make sure that is the last thing on my mind as I make the shot
