I bought today.....

Would be as well as putting on your laminate flooring.

Is it still quick if you have the mat on top of carpet? I remember years ago I had a cheap mat and on the flooring it was lightning quick but on top of a rug it really slowed down.
It was meant as a joke to describe fast greens, "like putting in a bathtub and trying to stop the ball before the drain." :)

And a our Vessel rain hood by Seaforth, because the ones supplied with their bags is bulky, stiff and pretty useless and there's still a lot of rain to contend with.

Pretty decent value at £39 and it'll fit all my bags.

I'm collecting some branded work stuff tomorrow and bought a spare ball pocket cover, which is getting my business logo stitched on, so looking forward to seeing that too.

My Motocaddy trolley is going really slow even with the speed set to 9 so I think the battery is on it's way out (over 6 years old, think I bought it in November 2019). Was in two minds whether to get a new trolley as it's the big five oh this year as a treat or just get a new battery. As usual I cheaped out and went the battery route when I looked at the prices on Motocaddy although they did have an ex-demo remote controlled one for £699 which was tempting.

Even cheaped out on the battery route, bought a lithium battery in the right spec, bought the connecting cables and a carry bag for a total of £86 from eBay. It's a 30ah battery so should be good for nearly 36 holes and I think I should be able to use the Motocaddy charger to charge it. Cheapest aftermarket 36 hole battery I could find was £140 and I suspect they are doing what I've just done.

If the new battery doesn't fix the speed I guess it's the motor that is going and once I change that I'll have changed the gearbox, motor and battery so should get a few more years out of it.

Following on from my recent driver/fairways fitting, I've been waiting patiently for the shafts to arrive, but the latest update is they are landing sometime this week.

I asked SGGT this morning if they'd build my driver in the meantime. They did exactly that and it's been through QC and I have tracking details to be delivered tomorrow.

With their updates, they sent me this pic, which I thought was a nice touch...

How did you find SGGT for the fitting?

Chesterfield store is only around the corner from me, definitely interested in giving them a go when the time comes to replace my driver.

13 knockoff golf pride align midsize grips from AliExpress for £30.64 delivered. Roughly the same price as 2.5 genuine ones, so if they are crap then I guess 2 of my wedges aren’t getting new grips. 😂
These arrived yesterday and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

They say “align” on them but there is no ridge, it’s completely flat. The corded top part feels smooth, not sure how much grip it is going to provide.

I might put one on a wedge to test but if I have to chase my wedge down the fairway after it slips out my hands I’ll know not to put the rest on. 😂

GolfClubs4Cash have just opened up a new shop in Southampton. It’s conveniently on my commute so would have been rude not to pop in.

Traded in my old set of irons that have been in the garage for a few years and picked up an almost immaculate sm10 60 degree wedge to have a play around with. 14 day cooling off period so if I don’t get on with it then it will just go back

Some lead tape! Struggling a little bit with the new 7 wood with it over-fading off to the right, and I don't particularly want to buy a different one because it's nice when I do square it up. So I'm going to stick 3g on the heel and see if that helps.

Can finally call myself a proper golfer when I've got some lead tape on a club. 😂

A new Driver and Mini driver(bare with me here I’m excited ) 🤣😍

Had my fitting today at PXG, what a service they offer. Got there 30mins early to have a look around the shop some amazing kit in there from clubs, bags, apparel etc. The welcome was amazing, booked in with them, had a chat with the manager about entitlement to Hero’s discount (more of that later), he made me a coffee and showed me around.

Anyway.. had a few taps with one of their wedges to warm up and a few with my driver to set base numbers.

We started off with Mini Driver as the fitter reckoned he could get me hitting that’s as far as my actual driver plus Inhad an itch to try it. Seeing as I’m a short ass he put a 43”, 3 Wood shaft in it which is 0.75” shorter than standard for that club. We tried every thing from Ventus , KBS, Rogue, Tensei, Link, Hzrdus plus more, some worked well others not so much, then he put in a Project X Denali Blue Frost mid launch shaft but the heavier option and my word 😳, we found my perfect match, spin was around 2400-2500, average carry 239-245yds and rolling out to around 260yds.

Moving onto driver, based on the mini driver numbers and strike pattern he wanted to put me into the Tour Mid again with a shorter shaft this time 44.75” so again 0.75” shorter than standard, again trying varying shafts with different results but wasn’t quite getting the middle of the face . So we reverted back to the Blue Frost again the heavier 70g as I couldn’t get used to the lighter 60g one and found the middle nicely and we were getting 263yds carry which is more than I get now. I thought we were there but the fitter asked if I wanted to try the Max 10k+ for fun so thought why not. What a club he put in the exact same set up as he had in the Tour Mid with shaft, heavier weight toward the face to drop spin numbers and set at 9° and it flew, it is a bigger head than the Tour Mid, but it just kept coming out of the middle carry went up another 5-6yds in average to 268yds and roll out to to over 280yd I have never hit numbers like that. Even on of centre hits I was only dropping to the same sort of numbers as I was getting from the top end of the Tour Mid and even he was surprised but we were both sold on it.

So I’ve walked away having purchased a Lightning 10k+ Max and a Secret Weapon mini driver both with shorter than standard Denali Blue Frost 70g shafts, with Golf Pride Midsize grips. Now I just have to wait for delivery, oh and tell the wife I’ve bought 2 clubs not one 🤣🤣

Also got some really nice freebies worth about £60 from the manager there for being military 😎

Had a driver fitting at lunch, tries the TM QI 4D, the Callaway triple diamond, and the new Ping, while all their number were a significan jump from Titleist Tsi2, Found the Ping to dead off the face with 0 feedback, and the Callaway to hot off the face. The TM numbers were insane, club head speed jumped by 10mph, carry by 20 yards, and dispersion tighter.
So bought that and some new shows the Footjoy Hyperflex.

An expensive Lunch, but still cheaper than the Ritz

Did you pay the extra £10 for a wrench? 🤣

Another update on the cheap grips. Put one on my 54 wedge and you can actually feel the align when it’s on a club, also doesn’t feel as slippery after a quick wash with some Fairy.

New fear is the cheap grip tape I got from AliExpress. Just a few minor issues with it like it was an inch short, doesn’t fit all the way around the shaft, it’s translucent and about 0.1mm thick. The pack contained 13 and I used 4 on the wedge just to get some coverage. Fully expecting this wedge to go flying down the fairway at some point.

More cheap escapade’s. The battery arrived, I put the wires on and used the Motocaddy charger. After about 5 hours it went green so all good.

The battery is about 5mm too tall for the bag I bought but I can cram it in and just get it closed.

Tried it in the trolley and unfortunately when in the bag it’s a few mm too big for the battery compartment on the M1. It will go in but you can’t push it all the way down but it does feel pretty secure even if it looks a bit ugly.

Plugged it in, ramped the trolley up to 9 and the wheels were moving so fast it sounded like the trolley was about to lift off, success I think.

Overall I’m pretty chuffed with the outcome, maybe should have actually measured everything before buying but where is the fun in that.
