Hybrid bikes and road bikes

You learn quickly as a pedestrian not to use them, well I did when I first went to Germany, mind you, it was easier going into to town, a bit harder when I didn't have full control of my legs on the way back to barracks

These conversations always tickle me. Motorists who think that they are being held up and suffering an unacceptable delay. Just exactly how long is the longest you have been held up by one of those dreaded cyclists?

Its not just being delayed, its the arrogance of some and the double standards as they bleat on about being equal on the road and want more respect from motorists yet they blatantly break the rules of the highway code when it suits them!

I hate them.....

so you have never broken the rules of the road then Robin? ;) You don't think you have priority on the road over say, cyclists? Looks like we've just introduced the pot to the kettle Fishy. If you're not careful I'll post my Lycra picture again :D

I'm innocent of everything, I'm a shining example of what the highway code represents and a model citizen, I am....:smirk:

i've got a boardman hybrid comp that i use to do 18 mile e/w trip to and from work, it good because i have a pannier so helpful for carrying clothes, laptop, etc. I have just picked up a Carerra Zelos road bike off eBay for £150 (9 months old). In terms of weight, it is pretty much identical to the boardman, the only difference is the gears and handbars.

I've been out on it a few times now and i think i prefer the positioning for longer rides on the road bike as you can have hands in the middle, on the gears/brakes or on the drops. Haven't yet cycled it to work as i'd need to carry a backpack filled with all sorts.

It is also a bit quicker, but that could be due to not carrying as much weight as there is no pannier and bag

Bought my first bike as a grown up today, I'm 40 and my last bike was a Raleigh Grifter XL.

Bought a Hybrid bike, Trek 7.2 something with disc brakes. Seems like a good entry level for someone who's fitness has plummeted in the last 5 years.

Can't wait to start doing a bit and hope that have something as well as the golf for leisure will help me stop getting too uptight on the course.

Cycling's about the only fitness exercise I can be bothered with so looking forward to getting out and about.
