If you are a keen gardener that is cheaper than buying plant supports and they come with built in eye protectors. (it's what I do with the old shafts)

Just a shame there is not anything of any quality you could give to a junior starting out. That is £8 of scrap metal
i do that with old shafts as well but you can buy 100 canes for £8 so not great value esp as postage would cost more

I was once having so much trouble around the greens that I toyed with the idea of getting one. But in the end I bottled it - couldn't have lived with the abuse and ridicule from PPs. I still haven't ruled it out entirely though
