How wrong can you be?

Saying that, not everyone is the same, I just found this the case for me!

No, tbh, it's the way I'm veering.

It's just everything is CF this and that, and I honestly think for many ( most ? ) average golfers that money & time spent on improving skills would be money in the bank.

Not saying CF wouldn't be brilliant, but there are other priorities right now.

I think TonyN calls it about right. Thinking back to when I started about 10 years ago, somebody said to me get settled with a driver and stick with it. Once confidence rises then look at improving. When at 28 h'cap I was slicing my drives, and again advised to get a higher lofted driver as this reduces spin and will help to stop the slice.
That certainly helped with my driving and have now got a TM R7 Draw and has stopped the slice altogether. H'cap is now 25, slow progress I know but I feel it's coming down rather than going up, despite my disastrous round the other week :D
I also got custom fit about 2-3 years ago at Mizuno and bought some MX23's which I get on really well with.

Keep at it CrapHacker and 18 is a good target to aim at as far as I'm concerned.

Not saying I'm anywhere near getting to the stage where I'm even in danger of putting myself in a position to approach it, even sideways.

But I'll get there. Almost certainly not this year, but maybe next year, maybe not.

But I WILL get there. :p

Never been custom fitted for anything and played off SCR for 7 years and between 0-2 for 20.

As long as its stiff shafted and I put a good swing on it the ball will go where I want it to!

If I get custom fitted and put a good swing on it the ball will go where I want to.

If I put a bad swing on either im in trouble!

The common denominator is the good swing!!,something I have been searching for for the last 2 months and yet to find.

It the Indian not the arrow that kills you!

If I ran a golf kit shop, I would hopefully advise those with serious interest and knowledge correctly but everyone else I would sell anything they wanted to them. Its business not a nursery.

Some customers enjoy being 'sold' to. Some hate it and just buy what they think is right. Regardless of a professionals advice.

The problem is there aren't many 'good' sellers in retail, and there aren't many customers that enjoy the selling process. Thus the popularity of mail order / internet sales.

I went for custom fitting with my new MX200's. More than anything, I wanted to get the right shaft for me...and I am very happy with my final selection. The only query I have is that during my fitting, the guy got me to hit a few shots off the strike mat. This indicated that I was catching my irons slightly towards the heel, so he recommended ordering my new clubs one degree flatter, which I did. Now I'm reasonably happy with them, but find that I am hitting quite a few shots right. Not a big push, but enough to see me missing greens right every now and then and it's something that wasn't there with any of my previous "off the shelf" irons. I've been doing it from day one with them. My shorter irons aren't affected too much, but anything 7 iron and below is. I understand that this can be caused by having irons that are too flat for you so I am going to get the lies checked by my club pro and if necessary have the clubs taken back to "standard lie" to see if this improves matters. My woods were bought off the shelf, no C/F and I am more than happy with them. Unless I put a stupid swing on them, they go as straight as an arrow.

Smiffy dont you get a free loft/lie check after 6 months. I do, just aint been back yet.

Don't know to be honest Tony.
If you do, I will go back and see what they say, but I do really think I need these taken back to standard lies.
As I say, I've never had a problem with pushing the ball right before, or not to this extent, so can only assume it is the irons as my swing (or excuse for it) hasn't changed that much in the last 3 or 4 months

Hapless

I am in the process of being able to offer a loft and lie service as part of my package.
Its all about giving the customer what they want!

All im saying is I have never gone down that route and never felt the need to.

Each to there own, people should always do what they think is best for there own game whatever it is.

Smiffy I was told at Clays that I could take them back after about 6 months for a free loft/Lie check and they would adjust for nothing if need be. Gives you time to settle with the clubs, then double check your fitting.
