I really just don't get it. It's so simple. Stop them obtaining petrol. There are cameras in some petrol forecourts saying that they are linked to the DVLA (I don't know if they are but it's not difficult to set up). Your driving Licence has a barcode on it to identify you. The pumps have barcode readers on them. See where I'm going with this? All you have to do is link the lot to to DVLA. Too many points? No petrol. No MOT on car? No petrol. No insurance? No petrol! Why has the government not sorted this? Billions tipped away on stupid things and yet criminals, that's what they are, are allowed to carry on as if they have done nothing. It's a joke! No wonder people don't vote "as nothing changes". It's about time one of those parties stood up for the people who follow the rules that have been laid down and jump all over the people who just go though life mucking about and messing up other peoples lives!

If you could mentally change some of the words used to be a bit stronger, you'll maybe get an idea of my fury.

So I get someone else with a clean license to put petrol in my car, what then?

YES EXACTLY. If they can't get petrol they can't drive. It's the ONLY solution.

I'm really not sure where you are going with this? If a banned driver wants to drive then they will get their partner/friend to fill the car up for them. I really don't think your scheme is likely to work.

Or you create a black market for petrol. However if you lock the driver up then that will stop them driving.

Whilst a commendable idea, I'm not sure it is actually workable.

As some one has said, friends or family of the disqualified driver could fill up tanks and get the petrol for them.
Petrol thefts from parked vehicles would increase
The cost of implementing such systems would be significant so who would pay for that?
Petrol station staff would no doubt get abuse from people who can't get petrol
IT network issues with the system meaning no one can get petrol. Who covers the loss to the service station?

No they won't. If they are banned, they probably driving a car without insurance or MOT so NO PETROL. There would be three hoops to jump though.

I look for solutions, not problems.

You are making some big assumptions. Do you have a car? Is your wife insured to drive it? Is it insured and MOT'd? You lose your licence, she fills the car up for you. Your scheme isn't very workable I'm afraid.

To be fair it's not a bad idea. People will get around it but the idea is to disrupt the criminal at every turn and just make life hard so it's easier to comply with the law. The current arrangements certainly are not working.
Still, it would need the DVLA to step up a bit. You can imagine all kinds of things going wrong and stopping the law abiding motorist from driving. I can just imagine having just put your private plate on your new pride and joy and the pump not working because the computer says "no". 🤔
