How serious do you take your golf

I'd say in comps about an 8 as I really want to get my hcap down. I only dreamed of getting down to 18 and this season I'm at 10. So I'm gonna keep pushing myself to see if I can get to single figures just once in my life.

Enjoy some society golf as well which is wonderful relief after grinding comps weekend after weekend. Drops down to about a 5/6 on those games.

When you've played for over 5 decades and you begin to realise that par 4s become long and par 5s are a log walk and a good par 3 will need Driver before many years taking my golf too seriously wont make a heck of a lot of difference to the scorecard.

So while I can still get it out there over 250yd and I don't have to take work seriously I'm enjoying more relaxing golf - make me a not to serious 4-5.

For me its about a 1 or 2 - whilst i like scoring well and enjoy playing well and feel chuffed when i do play well

Its not my real aim in golf - as a few on here will testify - for me its all about the enjoyment of playing the game with great people and having a real good laugh both on the course and after.

I have taken my previous sports too seriously and whilst reached high levels prob didnt enjoy it as much as i do golf.

Im loving it at the moment and already cant wait for the various meets arranged for next year

The bit in bold is pretty much me. I wish I could go back to my 20s and out the effort into golf that I put into football. I would have been a much better golfer than I am now and a much better golfer than I ever was a footballer. Too late now, though.

I take my golf seriously in that I ALWAYS want to play well and I try my best on every shot. However, if I play like an arse, it doesn't stop me enjoying it. I'd rather play bad golf than no golf. Which is just as well...

When I step foot on the course, I want to beat everyone I am playing with. I do enjoy it still, but ultimately, it is a results driven game. I'd say 7 or 8, as I am uber-competitive, but also like to enjoy the round and the company.
As soon as I 'stop caring' I play awful golf

I would put myself around the 7 mark. Any lower than a 5 then I don't think I would be bothered to get out on the course, as there needs to be a challenge in it and a bit of competition. Certainly would have been a 10 when I first started and was getting the handicap down, but that has all settled down and I'm pretty content where I am and certainly enjoying the game more now than I was before, even if I'm not in the winning lists as often.
