hi all.....was just wondering what would be a suitable age to start introducing children into the game?

i have a 2 year old son and cant wait to start taking him on the course with me

he already has his first set of plastic toy clubs! :D
hes always walking around with a club in his hand..or trying to get a hold of my clubs.

and loves watching golf on tv with me.

at what age have you guys started taking your kids around with you?

I don't think many manufacturers make proper clubs for anyone younger than about 5 or 6 and so it might be hard to get him a proper club to hit for a while. I'd encourage him to keep using his plastic one and maybe try and get a cut down putter for him to use (not as heavy as a proper club)

Did exactly this with my 2.5yr old son.....He plagues me when i go to the putting green so i got him a cut down putter....He's like my shadow now although when he does come he hits balls everywhere and at speed :D :D...Its funny to watch.....

One thing to check though is to probably get him a putter that can be hit from both left and right....He's still too young to figure out himself what feels more comfy....My wee man hits off his left and im right handed he even grips the club left handed.......
I also have a 7 year old girl that comes to the course with me.....She's big into the game....

The Young Guns series clubs should be ok for an average 4 year old plus. Under that is just too early.
The best advice I can tell you is to forget about the course until they are 9-10 years old as they will simply be bored after 2 holes.
Practice area short game is where it is at as the targets are a lot more realistic.

My 6 year old loves her putter and wedge, Ive purposely not bought any other clubs yet and she is hitting her two clubs pretty well, getting decent height with the wedge too which puts a smile on my face.

hi there,my daughter started playing at 7 years old,(now 10),my son started with real clubs at 4 years (now 5)due to the size of the clubs. My local club starts junior lessons at age 5 due to being of school age they are ready to learn and understand the safety aspects of the game. When he is a bit bigger check out sports direct for junior clubs we've had a few bargains and good brands as well(nike ect.)

My 7 year old daughter has lessons every week. She is getting pretty good aswell she can now hit a driver over 100 yards and a 7 iron about 60 yards. If she keeps going the way she is i am even considering junior membership for her next year.

I think about 4 is about right for proper clubs but maybe you can try tri golf before that i know they do it in schools but am not sure about out of schools.

The below website should help you out
