When I had a set of Ping Zing the sand wedge could almost put the ball up your nostril but the sand wedge on my last set of Cobra 2300 was more like a 48* pitching wedge. Perhaps it has something to do with 'game improvement' club makers wanting you to think you are hitting the ball for miles.

I carry three wedges in my bag:

PW-48 degrees for about 130 yards and in
SW-54 degrees for bunkers and about 110 yards and in
LW-60 degrees for poor lies off the green and about 90 yard and in

Yeah reminds me of the golf channel adverts.

"With the new pile of crap irons from jjb i can hit the ball further."

Yes because your clubs are all strong lofted by about 3 degrees you donuts.

48 degree pitching wedge
54 degree wedge
60 degree lob wedge. Only use that for wee chips round the green and greenside bunkers. 54 degree wedge is the most used.

To be fair to Wilson, it says in their advert 'I can't help it, I am really a seven' when the club in the picture is an 8 iron. Looking at the lofts, this is probably true.

That’s exactly what was going to post this morning!

Seriously guys is equipment improving or are companies like Wilson cheating us into thinking we are hitting clubs longer, like the add I had a 9 iron for breakfast this morning by Wilson and showing a PW.

From Taylor Made Website about the rather expensive Burner XD Irons:

» Thin, flexible and fast titanium face promotes increased ball speed

» SuperFast Technology for faster swing speed and more distance

The reality is that the 9 iron and PW lofts are 39 and 44 degrees.

The R7 TP lofts for 9 iron and PW are 43 and 47 degrees
