How many shots would you expect to take from inside 100 yards

Played my first medal of the season yesterday and kept a note of pretty much all of my stats, hit three fairways, noted driving distances, hit 5 greens in regulation and had 30 putts, also distance of each putt was recorded, going to go online and see if I gained any strokes in putting.

For the first time ever I kept a note of shots within 100 yards. I have been having lessons, many focusing on my short game. So I thought I would record how many shots were inside 100 yards.
My total was 50, don't know if that is good or bad ?? What would everyone else score and does anyone else record this ?

I had one 5 shotter !! 2 x 4 shots and 1 x 1 shot up and down from 155 yards ). The rest were generally threes with a few twos.

When you say 50 inside 100yds is that including putts or is it 80 including putts?
What was your overall score?

My overall score was 91 less 18 so net 73.

Seems decent to me, when you missed fairways how many times did it leave you with a bad lie?

Many improving this in conjunction with the improved short game will lower your score.

30 putts is quite decent for your handicap.

I'd always want to have a putt for par.

On one hole I lost a ball, I had three duff drives yesterday, which is quite unusual for me, but they left me well back and often in thick grass / heather and another couple in the heather. In recent weeks I had been hitting over 6 fairways and the misses were in the first cut so never too bad.
So hopefully next time out the driver behaves a bit better and I can keep or improve on 50, as that doesn't seem too bad.

The 30 putts should have been 29. I was less than a foot from the hole and instead of marking and taking my time, I was all off balance and out of line as I tried to knock it in !! Was trying to avoid standing on partner's line and speed up play. now that type of mistake, one I won't make again in a hurry, is a potential new thread all on its own

My advice is to not get too caught up on stats, play, enjoy, get better.

Totted mine up from today's round, 50 for me too, that included four 4s and a 5!, the five was after putting my three wood to within 20 feet of the green, need to sort my chipping out.

12ft from 100yds?? No chance.

Dustin Johnson was 4th in distance from Hole last year from 50-125yds and from 75-100yds he averaged 17ft.

so in fact all of the stats above are incorrect.

Depends really how many of these were from within 5 yards of the green because these ones I'd expect to get up and down more times than I don't. Other than that like others have said from that sort of distance you have got to be looking at 3 shots maximum.

Sadly HJS, I think that your view on this is a bit more likely than the 'forum distance' answers all around you. I think from 100yds I'd be delighted to get 3 and probably average much nearer 4. A 5 would be as likely as a 2.

Am I rubbish? Yep, but then I'm a bog standard 12 hcap.
