How many Eagles?

0 this year, although had two eagle putts come very close on Saturday. On one of our courses there's only 1 par 5 reachable in two, and on the other there are two. No drivable par 4's on either, so limited opportunities.

Thinking about it, I think I've only ever had one eagle, holing a 9 iron second shot on a par 4 about 20 years ago in Portugal (Bendinat rings a bell, but may have been Praia d'El Rey)

I don't really know how to break this to you. I'm just going to come out and say it. That doesn't count as an eagle, or even half an eagle.

Says Eagle on the scorecard, and on Intelligent Golf, I'd better let them know they're mistaken

Don't think I have had one. Of our four par 5s only the first and last are realistically in range in two for me (and the last is against the prevailing wind so usually not reachable) and I tend to play the 1st conservatively - it is too easy to mess it up and there is nothing like walking to the 2nd tee in a comp having just taken an 8.

As far as our par 4s. Either not in range or too risky tee shots for me.

But tbh I'm not bothered. Eagles are nice but that's it.

Umm why not ?

It appears that it is a 2 on par 4 ?

No eagles this year. Only 2 par 5s that both play into the prevailing wind and no realistically driveable par 4s (well, the first but I play an iron off that tee) at my club, so I have only had a handful of eagle chances this year, closest was yesterday where I got on pin high in two and just missed the putt ending with a tap in birdie.
More frequent birdies than ever before though so happy enough.

one.

pitched in on a par 4. caught it a bit thin as it happens.

Can't reach any of our par 5s in two and we don't really have any driveable par 4s.

I did manage to eagle Long Hill a couple of times and Barn maybe three or four times in my ten years at your place; also eagled Pen Park a couple of times holing my second. And these were in the days when I used a persimmon 3W off the tee :)

Not doing so well at my current track.

had a couple this year on the par 5 10th and one on the 460 yard par four 2nd..... bit of a damp squib. it was in a match and my oppo had blocked his tee shot on the beach. he's gone off to find it and said you play and I'll see you up there. Holed the 2nd with a 3 iron. He wanders back up off the beach and says, you can have the hole, i've just thinned mine into the rocks!!!!!

Well done.

Barn is definitely more getable. I've been on there in two a few times, never made the putt unfortunately.

I think you mean the 16th Pond, which comes after the par 3 Pen Park. Have driven that twice but again missed the long eagle putts.
Drove the 12th blackberry hill to 6ft,but missed the putt.
Never been on the putting surface at long hill in 2, been around it but never managed to chip in.

I think I need to work on my putting!

Have never holed out a second on par 4 or third on a par 5, ever, anywhere :(
My PP has holed out twice on 18, quite a feat! Once to win a club match, in the final pairing with the tie all square and both teams all stood watching!

1 I think. I tend to average about 1 a year.

All 3 of our par 5's I can reach in 2 but on 2 of them you have to hit a long drive to the correct side of the fairway to be able to have a crack at the green. Even when I do I'll still tend to lay up to about 100 yards as the punishment for a missed green is pretty bad on all 3 as well so I'd rather give myself a good chance at a birdy.

Cheers Stuey - it was actually Rannoch that I eagled twice - though thinking back I may well have got one on Pond after driving the green.

Don't keep track, maybe 3 or 4 in medals and team matches.

Not many chances at my place really, no driveable par 4's and the par 5's aren't very easy to hit in 2 due to either distance or bunkers around the green.

Most of those have probably come on our 18th.

Not even a sniff this year. My playing record does show 8 in the last 12 years - not bad for an old 'un but not very likely to increase that number now.

3 this year. But none in comps. One of our Par 5's is a 2 shotter in the prevailing wind, so should have had a couple more. The green is very tough and if you miss your in trouble so all in all a good par 5.
