I will keep my clubs as long as they are useful to me. If i got my handicap right down and needed better clubs i would replace them.

Only been playing for six months so am pretty sure i won't be buying clubs just for the sake of it.

I normally keep them for as long as I like them. Unless there is a new set out which really takes my fancy. Current iron's I'm going into 3rd year with the Ping S59's

I have been looking but the only irons I like thats out now are the Taylor Made something or other's. They look nice but I'll give my Pings another season!

My Scotty putter is also going into his 3rd year so I hope he keeps up the good work

If its putters then don't get me started.

My putting woes have left me with more putters than I care to count (actually its about 5 as we speak). My original putter was a Ben Sayers "Justin - Just in - geddit" which was a heavy bronze one I had from day one and which I still have. I then went for an original Ping Anser (which is in my locker at the club and could be coming out soon). Once the Anser mis behaved there have been Ram Zebra, Odyssey dual force 554's (currently in service) and Odyssey Marxman (which was due to cure my putting problems and was needed 41 times in the last comp so is out of the bag in the sin bin)

If we are talking proper clubs I had a set of X14's for about eight years and only changed to a set of X20's in January. However as I was made an offer I couldn't refuse on a new set R7's from TaylorMade last SUnday I've swapped again. I've been told by Marge in no uncertain terms that these are staying in my bag for a minimum of 2 years no matter who brings out the newest shiniest models this year or next.

Before that I had a set of Wilson Fat shafts and had those from new for about 5 years. I only traded their predecessors (a set of Mizuno's) to go with fat shaft technology.

With woods I tend to stick with one and use it forever. I only changed my Wilson Fat Shaft last year because having rejoined a club and playing regulalrly again the 400cc head looked like a 3 wood compared with todays models and I knew I needed to update my technology. The Callaway Big Bertha 460ccc seemed to fly well so it went in the bag.

I changed my old Callaway steelhead + 3 wood last year as my wife kindly bought me a Big Bertha 3 form y birthday. My original steelhead + 5 wood remains a trusty partner after 8 years and is still in the bag.

Well I had my 1st set of irons for 9 years and never seriuosly considered changing them. Since coming back and spending rediculous amounts of time on the internet seeing all those lovely clubs it's been a different story.

I had a set of Cleveland TA7 tours for 8 months. Loved them but the shafts where too heavy for me to load properly.

Mizzy MX15s. Loved them too, but again the shafts weren't ideal.

now have Macgregor M565s in graphite and I'm still not sure about these!

I'm much the same if my clubs are doing what they're meant to and not broken or damaged they will do me for a few years also I tend not to change everything at once so if I decide that my irons need a change I won't change anything else till at least the next season.

Can soomeone explain this to me.

Why would you change the very irons that have got your handicap right down. We all do it but why ??????

Our club champ and my doubles partner shot a scratch 66 on our track and changed the irons the next week and hasn't got near it.

If I had the money I'd probably change everytime a set/club took my fancy, but I don't so until there is something significantly better which is worth the money for the upgrade in terms of benefit on the course, I keep what I have. Or unless I spot an absolute bargain like my 5 wood brand new for £79.

But hasn't the web and forums like this altered our access to what's new. If I only had a magazine once per month and the occasional chat with someone who thort brand x was brill, I would be nowhere near as tempted as you lot make me!

My Titleist DCI irons are 12 years old and still going strong. Driver changed at start of this year due to new regulations. 3 wood is a classic "wooden" Ping from about 1983. I have 5 putters but have faithful to one for 5 years since going cack-handed.

Okay so the shiny new clubs in mags and the shops look tempting. We're all told about 'game improvement irons' and better player irons'. But what does this really mean?

Perhaps the real question should be 'how do you know when you should change up a gear when it comes to irons'. 'Cause at the end of the day the current set got your h'cap down so why change them if you're hitting them well.

Pretty happy with my bag so have no plans to change anything for a couple of years at least. That said, am a sucker for a bargain so cannoy deny that I will have the occasional punt when I see something shiny at a giveaway price.

The only possible change will be to try a 10.5 degree driver at some stage on my club pros recommendation but need to either wait or find a real bargain on that one.

Looking at your clubs in your profile name did you know there is a 2 page advertising feature from Orka in this months Golf World.

Don't usually buy it but as I'm off sick thought I could do with something to read.

Not seen a copy of golf world in a while but may pick one up tomorrow. Orka also did well in the TG iron reviews. Even if the results of these tests can be taken with a pinch of salt it is at least good to see that they are now getting included in reviews etc.

I change my fairways every ten years, my irons when they have too many stone chips in the sole and look tatty, and my driver when there is new technology out (about every 3 years).

I change my putter when it misbehaves, or I see something sexy.

If I could, I would never buy any clubs, just borrow different ones every week, as I find they all work brilliantly, until the cheque clears. Therefore, if I never buy any, I will be off scratch.

I am the shortest driver on this or any other forum.
When I resumed golf after a lapse of 25 years, I bought a full set of clubs (Wilson ProStaff) I realised immediately that the driver was no good for me. I bought a Wilson Staff senior flex which suited better but I had now become a club whore. Next came a Hippo XXL which lasted no more than one session on the driving range. Then a Progen Ladies model which performed as well as any of the others. Going up-market I bought a TM Draw which left me dissatified. Moved on to a Nike Sumo Lucky 13, still nothing special.
I have now reverted to my Wilson Staff which does as well as any of the others.
I recently bought two Cobra Baffler senior hybrids which work so well I am tempted now to go for the Cobra Speed LD seniors driver. Since I have been ill for the last month, I have not ventured into this but once I am fully recovered I guess I will be following my club whore career once more.
Pity me folks!

I bought my beginners set last year.

As a raw recruit to the game I decided to spend £150 on a full set (irons, driver, 3w, 5w, putter bag and headcovers) They served me well through the year as I strived to improve.
Don't get me wrong, they are perfectly good (if on the cheap side) and are capable of twonking a ball. After a year the tart inside me decided I NEEDED a better set of irons.
Cue the golf shop and several swipes of various clubs. I plumped for a set of Mizunos just after Christmas which I'm still getting used to.

I still feel I now need a new driver, woods and putter to complete the better quality set up.

Can't help it, call it game progression!
