How good is your bunker play??

Pretty damn good, not Tour player standard, but as a handicap golfer it's pretty damn good. Silly thing is my chipping around the green has never been a strong point, I'm better off being in an 8 foot deep pot bunker than having a flop shot around the green.

My most hated phrase in golf is "well out" when you just manage to get it out and it isn't within tap in range.

well out Adey, well out :)

Mines average, but given I can go 5+ rounds at a time not going in one it really doesn't bother me.

Only limited practice time, so this is low on the priority

The phrase well out should be banned. I probably get out of a bunker at the first attempt about 49 times out of 50. No need for it at all.

I should probably carry a pack of Hamlet with me - need I say more............ (I guess this is aimed at those of a certain age )

I take it I'm of a certain age then……… :D

Inconsistent would cover mine; it's either feast or famine, but little in-between.

Is the phrase "I can hear Mr. Rea warming up…." used anywhere else, as the opposition's ball heads towards the sand?

What a song, what a singer.

For those that don't like the saying "well out" when you have had five attempts trying to get you ball out. When you do get it out the first time it's like a hole in one. It would be rude not to say " good shot " if you got a hole in one 😁

Pretty good. Get annoyed though when there's very little sand in the bunker and the club bounces off the bunker Base and thins the ball into the next county!

Mine is awful and I need to get a lesson. I have sporadic bouts of being OK then it goes rats up again.

This is also me. Partly because the sand in our bunkers is inconsistent. Some of our bunkers have hardly any sand and what is there is hard and compacted; others have lots of deep, soft sand. I struggle to adapt between the different types and consistencies.

a heck of a lot better this year since I've actually understood what accelerating into a bunker shot means - trusting that I can accelerate hard into the ball, and as long as I get sand first it won't go anywhere near as far as a 'normal' sand wedge. Bottom line it's down to me having trust in the sand 'deadening' the shot.

Without going off topic, as I have said Santa is bringing me a lesson for Christmas. But out practice bunker is world class sand. Our course bunkers are not to the best of standard. It's alright having a lesson in the good stuff but what about when I am in a bunker where's there hardly any sand or what there is it is compacted.
Should I ask for a lesson on a course bunker.

take a picture of one of your bunkers and post it here.

I was a member of the local parkland course up the road for a couple of years and they had lots of bunkers with next to no lip and compacted hard sand.. you could just chip out of the greenside with a normal chip shot. Ive even seen a couple of guys putt out of them... one guy i remember putting it though a bunker to get to the flag cos he didn't fancy the chip over:rofl:

get a lesson as it alway good to know you have the right technique when you do play out of bunkers with sand in

Greenside bunkers I'm very confident in, very rarely fail to get it out and am disappointed if I don't end up within 10ft. When you start to get to 30-50 yard bunker shots I start to struggle. Needs some serious work.

Awful, worst part of my game and for my handicap pretty embarrassing. It's an area I really need to sort out before next season.

So strange as last year I used to think about holing bunker shots and holed a fair few. I've went back to watching the Pete Cowan video but i just can't stop taking them too clean.

Ive even done the get out with a 7 iron and I'm better at that in practice than I am using my wedge during a round.

Dont mean to sound like a you know what here but if you get someone to show u & explain whats going on there is little fear in getting out of bunkers .
To get better & get closer to pin takes a bit of work , but when you are confident of getting out your braveness will also get better

If I'm honest with you my bunker play is probably my strongest asset, not something I've ever really struggled with, I don't visit bunkers very often anyway but when I do then I just I go in, hit the ball out and walk out again, sometimes I'll even rake the bunker after.
