I would say i was OK ish.

The bunkers at my club with the odd couple of them being so deep and its a struggle to get out front, and so you can only go side ways. I play at a links course so its deep pot bunkers that are a case of just getting out with probably 3 exceptions .all 3are fairway bunkers on 17 and 2 on 18.

Played yesterday with a mate and was in 7, all were escaped 1st time and only two caused a shot dropped.

1st, left side greenside splashed out to 10 feet and sunk the putt.
3rd right hand specticale bunkers with 15 foot bank between the top of the bunker and the green, 2 putt bogey
5th back left greenside, almost holed, gimme.
10th green side right in two, two putt par
12th fairway spectacle, then straight into the greenside right. stuck close.Bogey
17th left side fairway, 8 iron onto green 2 putt par.

Probably the first time ive been in so many and not failed to get out of at least one.

how would you access your bunker play and whats your best best display of bunker play?

For a generally poor golfer my bunker play is pretty decent. Rarely fail to get out, usually leave it within respectable distance. I should add I have not played courses with pot bunkers so my skills have only really been tested on wussy parkland bunkers. I am happy to accept I could well be exposed on some courses.

I should probably carry a pack of Hamlet with me - need I say more............ (I guess this is aimed at those of a certain age )

mines poor, but its really a by product of the course im a member at having very few bunkers and even less that are actually in play. If i go in one greenside bunker in a round at home its a lot, 2 is too many and 3+ is unthinkable! Can suffer when travelling to other courses too

I think I can get out of bunkers fine because my bad bunker shot is a lovely clean strike to see the ball go a mile through the back of the green. :(

I'd say pretty good. Maybe better than average for my handicap.

Although, they recently put more sand in our bunkers and no matter how your ball ends up in them, be it a high wedge or a low 3 wood, every lie ends up as a fried egg with no more than half the ball above ground.

Anyone else have the same issue at their place?

its an issue at ours quite often. We have deep pot bunkers and the greenstaff rake most of the sand up the face and around the edge so leaves not much in the middle. So the ball runs in takes one bounce and plugs in the face. sand was wet yesterday and for some reason non of them plugged and if it did it had rolled out its plug mark.

Very average but used to be dreadful so there's progress. Still the weakest part of my game. Always seem to fare better at away courses with better quality sand but that's a poor excuse tbh.

Pretty good I think.

All the bunkers at ours are deep rivetted style bunkers similar to Patrick. Maybe 3 fairway bunkers on the course you can even think about doing more than splashing out but you need to be far enough back in them or it's lob wedge.

Best was probably a medal at the start of the year where I went in 14 bunkers in the round but played to handicap :) Or in the SAOL trophy that Gary won last year I was getting up and down from everywhere.

Every time I'm in a greenside bunker I'm confident of getting up and down (unless I need to play backwards or sidewards)

I'd much rather miss the green anywhere but the bunker. Its not that I dont fancy my chances but I know for a fact my up and down percentage will be better chipping from grass.

I hate the unpredictability of bunkers. Unless you are at a top class course in top condition. You may well end up in a foot print or poorly raked bunker. That is before you start to think about how much sand is actually under the ball. Misjudge this and you risk blading the ball over the green or not making it half way to the hole.

Give me a chip from any kind of reasonable length greenside rough.

Ability from bunker is decent to passable. I can usually pop it out and have a look at making the putt. Obviously I can also muck it up like everyone can.

Much the same here although I can be pretty good when the mood takes me.....
We have 6 bunkers on the entire course!
Wnen we move my bunker play is going to have to get a lot better!
