No golf for 6 weeks for various reasons.
Played for first time on Friday Net 62 took 10 shots off my h/cap couldnt believe it. Hope I can do the same in midweek
stapleford.
Anyone else get the same results after a break?

Nor me got to keep in the groove builds confidence, hate having a day off let alone 6 weeks i would go crazy.Having said that some people find a break good as they have gone stale or are golfed out or have just fallen out of love for the game[never understand that one].

A clear head with simple thoughts is the answer to this game.
Once you start to think to much you've had it.

My county coaching in my late teens gave me 2 KEY drills which turned out to be key to my golf swing working. If I was playing poorly I didnt look for different drills I just was not doing the KEY drills right or the tempo of my swing got a smidge quicker.

When playing on the course I always just had those 2 things going on in my head.1 was in the set up and the other during the swing.

I have always found that I can just turn up and strike the ball well no matter how long I have not played for because I always revert to these drills.
That obviously doesnt convert into a score because there is no feel or short game.

Keep it as simple as you can and try to enjoy the game, thats what its suppose to be about.

If you gauge your enjoyment of the day by the score you end up with then your going to have more bad than good days on the course.
After I played full time for 2 years and I had the attitude of Im going to enjoy a game of golf with my friends and if I do a good score it a BONUS I enjoyed the game a lot more than when it was life and death.

GREAT SCORE..WELL DONE!!!
Go out with the same outlook and attitude next time and you might do it again.

And what were these two key points?

He could tell you Homer, but then he'd have to kill you. Or he could charge you a few guineas for the knowledge. But if he is an honest and well meaning forumer, then he will tell us all his 2 secrets.

They were key for my swing and antidotes to what were and still are my bad habits.

They were KEY for me.

One of my bad habits was getting a bit shut at address and having no room to clear my left side.
We worked on a drill that stopped this and eventually realised that I actually hit the ball and swung on plane far better when I stood way open (ala Fred Couples)
This was found by accident really and is not textbook but it works for me,the club is on line at the top of the back swing and the path of the swing went straight up and down which meant a lot more consistency.

This can be clearly seen in the video just before I retired but was taught over 20 years ago.

My Swing Video

I dont have a fantastic golf swing but it is simple and it repeats.
Once you find drills that work, try to stick with them, changing from 1 swing thought to another can get confusing and slow progress down.
Its finding the drills that work for you which is the tricky bit.

Nice scoring!!
Had 2 gross 75's (4 over) in my first 3 rounds back on full greens and tees. So far so good. 1st medal on Sunday will be the real test.

There are only two things that would stop me from hitting balls for that long,... injury or prison

I've not played since the beginning of December when I shot my best ever net 63 in the Monthly Medal. I last swung a club at the end of December when I had a lesson....4 days after that, I was in hospital with a perforated appendix. My next games booked in for the 6th Feb, which is our Monthly Medal, so I'm hoping to pick up where I left off.

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks whether a forced layoff is good.

;)

Had my first game for what seemed like months on Saturday. No practice, straight on the tee,and a nice smooth hybrid 30 yards short of ditch running across first fairway.Second shot with a 7 iron, perhaps not quite so smooth, but still nicely 20 yards short of the same ditch! If it had not been down hill wouldn't have even gone that far.

All my nicely washed and pressed gear splattered with mud.It was just so worth the wait to play.

im the exact opposite, didnt play for 7 wks, first game was diabolical, im a groove player. I have to be playing/practicing a lot to keep playing well! i hear these stories all the time of people who dont play for ages and then play great when they come back....lucky so and so's!!!
