How far do you hit your 7 iron and your driver?

How is everyone measuring these distances? Cart Computer? GPS? Course Markings? Range Markers?

I have no idea but I probably hit the 7 the best out of all cubs in my bag and the driver maybe the worst/most inconsistent...

No idea about total distance as so much can vary, but on a calm day with a flat shot in front of me....

7 iron is my 160 club, and would happily take on a carry of 155 with it.
Off the tee, I wouldn't try to take on any danger with a carry of more than 240.

7-iron 140my broken an
Driver - 240-245.

No ego on these stats. It's the numbers on the scorecard that counts.

I often play with a guy who is 2 clubs longer than me, and our total scores are normally similar. He used to be 4 clubs longer, but without a shot inder 110. I have played with someone (top Rugby forward) who hits 9-iron 190!

Strangely (maybe/maybe not), when I returned from broken ankle, my Driver distance had reduced by about 30-40yds while my iron distance was only marginally affected. Armsy iron swing i guess.

I play with a young guy who can literally outdrive me by 50yds consistently and hits wedge 160 easily. He will be lucky to break 90 in any given round but its fun to watch.
Distance is only relevant when you know what club you need to hit a certain distance to be PIN HIGH, do that and you will be close each time. works for Master Luke.

Under 'perfectly normal conditions' and swinging well I'd go with 7-iron from 165 yds.... 160 and I'm thinking 8-iron. Drives vary too much but I'd take anything over 260yds... 280-300yds is a SOLID hit. I'd take a chance at carrying a bunker at 260yds but not if it was a 260yd carry over water.

Pretty much the same as above , a 165 yard par 3 id bang my 8 , but thats right on the limit , if there was trouble in front of it id swop up to a 7 ..
on a good day i can drive our short par 4 12th, bout 290ish or so , so 255-260 carry with a decent run out mayb... i normaly try a 75/80% swing with the driver & would be hoping 260/270 total ..

7 Iron yardage is 155yrds
Driver yardage is 260yrds.

My Irons are fairly short length wise too.
My previous set of irons I hit a 7 iron 180yrds. Far far too long, created issues with the lower end of the set.

I carry my 7 iron 165 yards in still conditions, Driver can go anywhere between 270 carry and about 110 yards carry for a duck hook

Come off it mate, you can duck hook further than 110... ;)

I can hit it far enough into the rubbish to have to hack out with a 7iron.

In quiet conditions, driver 250-260. 7 iron 160- 165

Now for the willy measuring bit,.... Anyone have a ruler I can borrow

I hit mine miles at least 200 for the 7 iron and well over 310 average with my driver !!!!!!!!!!!!

this is because I have/am a massive knob!;)

(some of the above may not be true)

I'm gonna echo Homer's sentiment and ask why ask??

These posts always end in a massive playground ruck

Yes Homer said why ask, then went on and put his wifes distances on[whats that all about?

that seems like one of the more significant differences.

140 to go is my 7 iron
driver is harder to guess given rolling fairways and not many driving hazards to carry/layup to, but 220/230 would be a fair hit for me.

I guess it's the way I have come to swing the clubs - I am only interested in accuracy with an iron and have developed a more compact swing. I could hit a 7 iron further but very very rarely would I take one for a shot of more than 145, and am more likely to select a 6 at around 143...

I really really get more satisfaction from where it goes than what I used to get it there :)

165 for both.

Doesn't matter how much peripheral weight they put in a modern driver head, if you hit it as far away from the sweet spot as me, it goes nowhere :(

That is about the same as me. I hit my driver about 170 along the floor like a bouncing bomb (provided I don't do an air shot).

With my new Mizuno irons, my 7 iron goes about 60 yards with a high sort of slice off the hosel whilst at the same time, sending massive vibrations up to my skull that loosen my fillings.

On another note, can anyone tell me what wedge would go 100 yards for me? I currently hit my 54 degree one about 120 and my 60 degree one 80 yards. I genuinely have no idea what the answer is and often find myself with 100 to go and stuck for what club to use. Please help me and I appreciate I am a bit daft not knowing this.
