How far do you hit your 7 iron and your driver?

........

With my new Mizuno irons, my 7 iron goes about 60 yards with a high sort of slice off the hosel whilst at the same time, sending massive vibrations up to my skull that loosen my fillings.

On another note, can anyone tell me what wedge would go 100 yards for me?
Aah, the flighted pipe, so much more stylish than a common shank :)

The 60* hit a little thin should get you bang on 100yds, just don't shout "spin", it won't be listening ;)

Flighted Pipe! Love it. It has become my stock shot.

Good point on the 60. Makes me wish I had got one with a bit more bounce for consistency of thinness now.

On another note, can anyone tell me what wedge would go 100 yards for me? I currently hit my 54 degree one about 120 and my 60 degree one 80 yards. I genuinely have no idea what the answer is and often find myself with 100 to go and stuck for what club to use. Please help me and I appreciate I am a bit daft not knowing this.

Apart from the obvious - 57 - have you tried 3/4 and/or 1/2 swings?

Wedges are the finesse/scoring shots, so shouldn't just be used like other irons. That's the whole argument that Dave Pelz successfully advances about the consistent gaps - at the wrong end of the bag!

I'm pretty sure that sacrificing a little used club at the long end of the bag for more options at the scoring is worthwhile. I know a low capper who has 5 wedges!

52 wedge is my red marker club this year. last year it was the pitching wedge. you just need to get out there and see what gets you to the middle of the green. everyone is different and it can change!

I carry my 7 iron about 150 on a calm day, although I can push it an extra 5-10 if I'm playing well.

Driver I'm not actually sure how far I carry but I'd say 240-260ish. I have measured drives that have gone over 300, but no way in the world is that carry, and generally I'm between 250-270 from the tee including run.

That is about the same as me. I hit my driver about 170 along the floor like a bouncing bomb (provided I don't do an air shot).

Um,.... what about DON'T leave yourself 100yds!!

how do you know how far your drive has gone, from the distance you have left or from the yardage markers at the range if it is the latter i would take them with a pinch of salt as most bear no resemblance to the actual numbers on them and are not generally measured when put out and in some cases are deliberately made shorter to make you think your hitting the new driver your wishing to buy better than your old one.( as in come into this bay mate!!!!!)

I use the very basic x-y=z; if I am standing on the tee and have 433 to the centre, and am standing over my second with 160 to go - my drive was 433-160=273 (assuming it went in a straight line to the green!)

As you suggest, range numbers are totally irrelevant for a number of reasons!

I played last night and hit a 7 iron 190 yards on one hole and a Driver 200 on another.

Oh and one was downwind and the other was not;)

54 = 120. You da man. No wonder you can't hit 100 easily.
Try a SW, plain vanilla flavour. 56 degrees. If it goes nearer 110, get it cranked to 57 degrees.

As mad as it sounds, my PW was adjusted to fit better between my GW and 9i.

Is red marker 100?

We have them at mine. I'm not keen on being spot on it, rather be 5 yards shorter or longer

I've hit a putter 200 yards if that helps....

If that's true we need more info!! Do tell!

It was a few years back and I was mucking around playing solo. The ball was sat up really nicely on a small tuft and I just thought "what the hell, why not" took the putter to it, gave it a full swing and off it went. With little loft it just ran and ran.....

There's a great story of Guy who took 3 putts but still made an Eagle......
He had an electric trolley and set it off for the next tee as he went to putt out the previous hole. Unfortunately the distance thing didn't cut the motor and it went trundling off down the fairway unattended.
So this Guy has a putter in his hand, so he tees off with it and hits it 200+ (Par5 hole). He reaches his ball but his trolley is now at the next green where the Guys on the green have stopped it for him.
He hits his putter again because he's not walking 500 yards there and back to get another club.
The ball flies, bounces off a sprinkler head, takes a couple more generous bounces and finishes on the green 20 feet from the hole.
He then holes the putt for a 3-putt Eagle.....
