How do you rate your bunker skills?

I would say average, fairway bunkers i would say i could hit about 80 yards or so from them (standard fairway bunkers none of crazy 6+ foot walled jobs. Greenside bunkers i can get them out, but as far as control and lines etc I am shocking..

Tho i could ask the mate for some pointers as at ballyliffin on sunday he found bunkers in all but 3 holes.. Fairways or greenside made no difference he was in em.. LOL

For a single digit hcap I'm very inconsistent out of them, rarely will I leave one in though. Rather than be too delicate I would look to make sure I'm out even if it takes me away from the pin.

I'm definately good at raking them though!

Absolutely brilliant. They haven't made a bunker I can't get my ball in, even if they hide it behind a tree i'll be there.

The only thing I haven't worked out yet is why the cut the grass short and put a flag in it, right next to the bunkers.

I'm going with (who was it....Murph maybe??) the classic words of another forumer who said he tended only to hit one shot, get it out and move on. If it happens to be the right length I look like a bunker god....
As for fairway bunkers, depends where I'm playing. If there's no massive wall to negotiate, I'm not bad at those either.

I hate those shots you have to play when you're not quite in the bunker. You know, the ones on the sandy grass that's around it. You just know you're either going to blade it or the bloody club is going to come to a grinding halt and you'll flub the ball about 6 inches

I always take too much sand with fairway bunker shots. I try to keep my legs "quiet" and not dig my feet down too far into the sand as all the instructional books say, but I still end up fatting it.
If I try to stay up on the ball and pick it off cleanly I end up hitting a massive thinned slice

Try looking at the top of the ball(not the back).
Works for me a lot of the time.

It's a Gary Player tip for playing fairway bunkers

I rate my bunker play out of 10 about a 7. I can get out no problem and put it pretty close but those shots where the you need a tiny swing is the ones that i always balls up

Im quite happy with my bunker play, but then again, I am used to my own local bunkers, throw me into the road hole bunker and Im not so sure it would be just as cosy.

When I go in one I normally get out and reasonably near to where I'm aiming. My problem is we have about 5 bunkers on the course and I rarely go in one so I don't get the practise needed. But I consider myself a pretty solid bunker player.
