How do you keep score

I once saw a picture of an old scorecard from an Open in the 1920's or 30's (might have been one of Henry Cotton's) on which there was a a mark for each stroke at each hole and then the total for the hole written in. I guess in those days (without official markers?) it was a good way to make sure the score was correct.

Count the shots taken, add in my penalties, tell everyone, then ask if thats right, go through all the shots in my head, add the extra shots remembered, ask everyone, take off the shots I have remembered incorrectly. Ask someone.

Same for me, but have an extra step.. Once I have an answer, I shave 2 strokes of it... simples..

I generally use a card and pencil!

It's fair to say that the gadget shown in the first post has to be the worst golf accessory invented??? I can almost guarantee that a family member will present me with one at xmas now I've said that. Or one of the other pieces of rubbish you find in Sports Direct

"oh thanks, a dunlop deluxe score card holder"
"you don't already have one of those do you?"
"Yes, it's called a trouser pocket"

Under or over fives in friendlies. Beautiful copperplate numbers and letters in competition! There's nothing worse than being handed your card by your opponent and not being able to make heads or tails of it. Did he really go through full time education?
