How do I get out of this one?

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of problem and would like to know if anyone has any advice on a way forward.

My good wife a few weeks ago kindly bought me a new driver for fathers day from my new son who is 8 months old. She got me a new Ping G15 9 degree stiff driver.

This was a very kind gesture and totally unexpected and I am really gratefull.

However, she also traded in my Taylor Made Burner Tour that was custom fir for me and I was hitting superbly. The new G15 has had 2 rounds so far and I can't hit if for toffee.

I am going to try and perserve, but what can I do, I can't tell my wife that the new driver is no good and I can't revert back to my old driver?

I feel bad typing this post but the only thing I can think of is to go and trade the club in but how do I do this without hurting her feelings?

Cheers,

Kev

get rid asap....

I have been in a similar situation to you for the past 2 years and have only just sorted it out.

My brother bought me a lovely Odyssey white hot centre shaft putter for being his best man. IT was around the time that i had just taken the game up.

One thing that i wish i had done at the time, is take it back to the shop and trade it for a putter that i liked the look of, not him.

So, last week, after persevering for just over 2 years, i ordered a new putter and my putting has improved drastically!

When my brother saw the putter, he at first asked what was wrong with the putter he had got me! then he realised and actually apologised... not that an apology was necessary.

I reckon you just explain to your wife the situation, but don't say anything about your old driver. Just say that you're having problems hitting the new one. Suggest you trade it in and get custom fit for a new one.

Either that or buy another one behind her back and keep it hidden ;)

Easy, find out where she did the p/x go buy it back. Keep the G15 but switch head covers.

;) :p

bingo, or buy it back, keep one in the bag and the old one in the car boot or at the club in your locker, one of your playing mates houses/bags

If she's anything like my wife she won't have a clue what is in your bag anyway so I'd swap the clubs and if required swap the headcovers to save face. vouchers

Get a divorce.

Not really. Just take a load of her belongings - clothes, jewellery etc, pawn them and go buy your driver back.

Keep the new one though and give it to her for Christmas.

Women eh havnt got a clue, only one way to a mans heart.I dont know about you lot but my misses wouldnt go near my golf equipment nor would she buy me anything without asking me whether i wanted or needed it first.

My wife knows never to buy me anything to do with golf, as although her heart would be in the right place she would be clueless, I think you need to have that talk with yours.

Luckily last time my wife bought me anything golf related it was a custom fit session at the Belfry with vouchers to buy whatever was best suited. She is the first to admit that she has no idea what I would want but had heard me talking about custom fit with my brother.

Ooooh, that's a tricky one and precisely the reason my entire family are under strict instructions not to buy me anything golf related unless I specifically request it.

If it were me, I'd probably explain the situation to her if not only to avoid her doing it again :D but some of the other suggestions are probably much better than that.

One thing I don't understand is how she got the old Driver out of your bag without you realising?

go to Ping and get the G15 fitted?
you might come away with a different loft head, and/or a different shaft but it will still be the same driver won't it? (Geo Washington's axe).

then buy her a pair of shoes that won't fit!

Sound advice - a change of shaft has got to be worth it.

I'd trade the Ping in and offset it against a custom fitted driver. Personally I'd tell her you won a GM competition to get fitted and get to keep the new driver. Tell her you broke the one she bought on the test day

Ah the good old GM Competition/Test excuse. How many of us have used that one......
