How difficult is your 1st hole??????

Short par 5, 472 yards, SI.8 to start with. Plays up hill but normally with the breeze, but green can be reached in 2 but it's a risky shot cause the green is very well protected as its raised and has crap all round it, including some horrible bunkers that love to take a shot or two off most players.

Always play it better when playing it in regulation, drive, iron, wedge. But if with the wind and I hit a decent drive I normally let the devil on my shoulder tempt me to go for it in two. It's like when your about to leave the pub and someone offers you a pint, even though you have a time to get back for. You know what the sensible thing to do is, but you never do it!

It was a really tough start when it was a par 4 some years ago

All 1st holes are difficult if you dont warm up properly..
My old course Southport & Ainsdale has one of the recognised hardest staring holes in the country.
New course is a lot easier but you gotta warm up..

Straight par 4, 404 off the whites, 395 off the yellows, 355 off the reds. In a dry summer downwind it can be a drive and a wedge. Generally for me in good conditions it is a drive and a 6 iron. At the moment I'm hitting driver and 5 wood.

A deep bunker about 150 from the tee covers the right right half of the fairway and catches more balls than you'd think. The fairway slopes left to right and a very large oak tree intrudes on the left and will block out anything too far left on the fairway. The ground slopes away quite sharply to the front right of the green which is guarded by 2 smallish bunkers. Tricky sloping green on which it can be hard to chip close and which is very easy to 3 putt.

SI is 10 and in comps it generally plays on average at just over 5 putting it in the middle of the pack. I think its a good opening hole not to easy, not too hard.

Tough hole the 1st at Cooden. Usually into a decent breeze. The green is not that big either. You wouldn't want to play off 9 with that start.

When I played with Ray Taylor there in the mens invitation earlier this year it was blowing a gale straight into your face, and lobbing it down with rain.
Due to the 3/4's handicap adjustment, none of our fourball were shotting up there.
Result?
4 blobs.
:o:o:o

That is a toughie and its a par 3 too. Played it in the Lancs ladies championship off the yellows rather than the reds, took a driver and failed to reach the bunkers let alone the green. In my defence it was into the face of a 30mph wind.

Our is evil!
Par 3 216 yards SI5 with OOB down the right which has the tee tight to that side. There's a ditch that runs diagonally from right to left and runs past the green about 20 yards away. There's a large bunker on the left of the green which the green and the surrounding ground runs towards. It also has a bunker short of the green which looks close to the green but is about 30 yards short.
It doesn't sound too hard but it's rare to get a par let alone a birdie and I have seen someone take 11 shots playing off 19.

Well, sir Nick Faldo was asked the question a few years ago on U.S. TV commentary "what's the hardest opening hole you've played." He said.. Knebwoth into the wind...
I nearly dropped my pint ! That was my home course

First hole 471 yes par 4... Down hill tee shot so the ball balloons and goes nowhere.. 2nd shot from a hanging lie about 30" up.. The a double tier green... I've hit driver...3 wood... 7 iron.... Short... It's a bitch..

Club up on third shot then. :D

Ours is a doddle. Easiest on the course, but it's the FIRST HOLE !!!! Oh...and DO NOT take the water on on the left to leave and easy lying second. Did it go in? Looked close. Not sure.....etc etc. Card could be in tatters before you've got going.
