How Did We Get On

Played friday as usual and was very solid in most aspects - sunk a few putts had some good drives and decent approaches too. Had 33 points after 16 holes with 2 "shot" holes to come.
Problem is I still had 33 points after 18! Blobbed the last 2 - no idea what went wrong, I just forgot how to play!

Medal on wednesday - feel I'm going to get cut!!!

Joined up with a different roll up yesterday, shot 71 with a lost ball. Played half the round in shirt sleeves - can't see that happening again before the new season starts!!

I actually played 9 holes yesterday.
After 4 pars and 4 birdies, missed the 9th fairway, missed the green right, chip came up short and missed the 10 footer.....bogey 5 (446 yds)
Stupid game :(
No matter what your standard, there's always that one hole that spoils dinner :(

Well after a frosty start I went out for 9 holes around 2.30pm. The weather was superb, shirt sleeve weather, very little breeze, an absolute delight. Played reasonably well, one or two errant shots, but on the whole I was happy with the way I was hitting the ball. Nice to get out for a few holes on a nice afternoon. Great fun :D

Greens were not too bad, all the dry warm weather has helped them recover quickly from the hollow tinning that was done last month.

Here's hoping the dry weather sticks around for a while longer.

Played in the Cornwall Bowl on Saturday at Killiow and had a good round we finished 4 under par (alternate shots) and won 3&2 but our team lost the match. :(
Played in a 3 ball comp today (2 best scores to count) and we scored 6 under par and got nowhere near the winners.
Playing in the Wayne Perry classic at Treloy tomorrow and as the reigning champ for the last 2 years i have to defend it as no one has ever won it 3 times.
Then at 7am on Wednesday i have to go to Feurtaventura with the Missus and 2 of the Kids for a holiday, hard life eh? :D

Im so annoyed with myself today. Played in this mornings comp, off 20 HC i know that i am always going to be inconsistent but today really took the biscuit. Nett 69 (70 par) but i could / should have scored a hell of a lot lower. Hit 11 pars on my card today but a 9 on the par 4 7th and a 7 on the easiest par 4 coupled with a few double bogeys has left me fuming with myself. I know that i am lower than 20 but just seem to fall to pieces in comps when i know i have a good card going.

Well played in the Sat Stab yesterday and got a big chunk of flake of all the lads on the 1st tee as I am leaving in the next few wks to join another local club. All the "your leving cos your not good enough to play her" and other dig's made me want to put in a good show.

Well after score's of 5 for 1, 6 for 1,4 for 2, 6 for 1, 4 for 1, I was starting to think boy am I going to get it when I get in!!! But then I remembered how to play again and went 3 for 4, 2 for 3, 4 for 3, 4 for 4, turned in 19pts and came home with 40pts to win out right comp!

Who's not good enough!

I played in a bizarre format doubles thingy.

Didn't work out so well, 34 points.

I'll have to wait another 7 days to see what I can score on my own.

Couldnt hit a straight ball at all in the first nine yesterday, started off with 12 points (one ding and lts of single pointers) front nine and 20 back. 32 points yet felt strangely satisfied.
I couldnt buy a putt (healing tined greens).
Our last green has been lifted again as the slopes were still too severe after being softened two years ago. It is on a 6 week temporary green, this was the only hole I birdied, theres irony for you.

We had the drive up to the club with slightly dull weather got out of the car at the carpark and landed on the first tee to be welcomed by a big thick blanket of fog.....Visibility down to about 50 yards.... For the front 9 it was like playing in the dark only knowing a good shot was hit by the sound of it.....you needed to get to within 30mtrs of the greens to see the flags...... Went out and turned with 11 points and came in with 18 for a grand total of 29....
It was an experience to say the least..... :D

Came off with an 80 after feeling I hit the ball awful.

Only 28 putts and 4/6 up & downs saved my score.

Back to the drawing board!

Is that a small cut then?

28 putts....that's quite a lot of saved shots :)

No cuts for me until March :(
I thought I was going to get a decent cut last week but it wasn't h'cap qualifying because we played off the yellows. The whites have been taken in until next year :shakesheadindisbelief:

4 or 5 weeks ago I bought a totally different style putter to the one I had, and it's totally transformed me. I think I've played about 7 rounds with it now and not had more than 31 putts yet (from averaging around 36 before).

Going from driving well and putting bad, to driving poorly and putting well, I know which I'd choose given the choice.

One way you feel you've played well and come off with a bad score, the other you think you've played badly and play to your handicap or better.

2 poor rounds over weekend---a few wayward drives, a number of poor irons shots, poor chips, a few missed 3 foot putts and a few three putts.

Result-----a couple of 0.1's back and back up to (15)14.5.

Teed it up this morning for an informal round with a mate.

Haven't played for 3 weeks so feeling definitely rusty. No practise, unloaded the car and straight up to the 1st. (never doing it again). Wicked slice onto a rough lie. Beutifully struck 5 iron shot saw me nicely placed on the fairway.
The majority of my shots on the front 9 were somewhat wayward as I got back into the groove.
My game came back on the 8th. Almost birdied the par 5, parred the 9th and 10th (happy days!)Things continued in a similar vein until the 16th where a wayward teeshot made the recovery hard.

Just glad to get out on the golf course to be honest. Been very busy with work for the past 2 weeks where golf was a non starter. Just glad to be back and hitting them!

Played on Saturday in Stableford comp. Went out in 22 points! A very rare birdie on the par 5 second was really pleasing after striking a delightful 9 iron to 1 foot from the pin. Also the 4 ball in front witnessed this whilst waiting on the 3rd tee :D
As we're walking to the 10th one of the guys in the 4 ball said to me jokingly, that he'd played with someone last week who shot a 23 on the front nine and just a 9 on the back. I just laughed it off but a bit later he said to me, " you'll probably only get 9 or 10 points on the back nine. I was a bit annoyed at this and again just ignored it.
I blobbed the 10th and 11th holes and went on to score just 12 points making a total of 34 in all.
Now I don't know about you guys and gals, but if playing with someone who's having a good round I'd say things like, "Keep it going mate, or you're doing great ,keep it in play". Anything like that as long as it's encouraging and positive.
I'm not blaming this guy for my poor back 9, that was down to me. But did wonder, did it make a difference to me sub- consciously, what do you think?
Anyway, to use a Smiffyism

Golfmmad.

Played very well today in our last stableford comp of the year and came back in with 40 pts, 22 front 18 back with only 1 blob and although i played well i still felt as though i'd left a good 5pts out there.

Anyway, i'm happy with my performance and look forward to a handicap cut.

That really annoys me
If the course has been measured for a SSS off the yellows, why can't you get cut off the yellows
