• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

How big are you?

I average about 250 with the sweetspot going between 270-290. I am happy with that, I would rather average 220 and have a cracking short game.

Whats your h/c Parmo ? Mine go about 250 travel (trackman verified) and i'm off 4 and not considered short at my club

I've hit one drive over 300, that was on a very dry hard downhill fairway and the ball just ran and ran and ran!

I reckon on a good driving day the ball goes 220-240 depending on roll and the like. Usually around 200 I would reckon. Last time out I hit one 30 yards, did go about 300 yards up though :D

Rest of my game is just as inconsistent, that is why I play off 28

When I remember to record drive lengths on my sonocaddie thingy it is generally because it was a good drive (not average).
But the other week I did record two drive, one into a strong wind, once with the wind behind.

The two distances were 250 & 310, giving an average of 280.
Both were cracking shots of which I am very proud. They both hit fairway and went where I aimed (ie, left & right half of the fairway respectively) to set up the best angle to the green.

But they are by no means average drives.

Not sure what my average is but I guess it is usually between 245 and 285 depending on conditions.

I hit a drive 346 yards on the 10th at Sunningdale last week though. It is a slightly elevated tee which helped but the real boost came from the fact that I hit a 3 wood on to the par 4 9th green to 12 feet................then 3 putted for par!!!

I was somewhat vexed and belted my ball as hard as I could off the 10th tee. It could have gone anywhere but I fluked it off the sweet spot and it went forever.

Far, far from the norm though and I agree, there aren't many people I have ever played with that have an average driving distance of over 300 yards. Not many people I play with outdrive me and I am nowhere near 300, not even close.

I've had my distances measured on the Trackman monitor for my drives so I know that its 235 carry at best. Measuring it with SC5 and including any roll I'm still only averaging a total distance of around 240

That's the important part of when people claim these massive distances.

I'm one of the longest hitters in our club (not necessarily one of the best golfers) but I'm nowhere near 300yd average. I know of only 2 or 3 boys at our track who are regularly longer than me (they play off +2, scratch & 1) and have good short games to back it up.

18 dude, I am quite a long hitter but it only really counts at my course a few holes because its a small track and all about short game, which I am working on.

A shorter track should give you good wedge skills to take away with you to other courses. Could be an advantage..

I'm sure I say this every couple of weeks when this subject is bought up ;) but I'd love to know what you guys averaging 280-300 yds are having for breakfast.

I reckon I'm about 250-260 and it's very rare that I'm not the longest in my group. I've had several people this year comment on how far I'm knocking it out there and I'm not close to averaging 280 let alone 290-300.

Was that a dig at my humble 250 ? I'm one of the realistic brigade who actually knows his distances in the real world not the one where your eyes are closed and you've just holed a 40 footer to win the Open.

250 on the fly seems reasonable for my standard , I played a 2 h/c in the scratch league this year who was 20/30 yards past me but he's on a golf scholarship and playing/practicing everyday

Far from it, I was agreeing with you. It was aimed at those who say they average 280-300. Personally I don't believe them.
