Big holiday this year, the wife's bucket list thing. Next year I've decided to buy the bullet and do a proper golf trip with a couple of big courses to be played. So where would you go? I fancy either Kent coast or Portugal. But then there is Scotland with it's obvious attractions.

If your looking for history and like links courses then Scotland looks obvious.
Prefer an all inclusive then Turkey or Morocco.
Just golf all in one place then Woburn or Gleneagles.
Tell us what you are looking for and sure we can provide some good options

Just you? You and ‘the lads’? You and Mrs C? If the last one then does your wife play golf or should suggestions be suitable for both golfer and non-golfer and what would she be looking for?

Just me and Mrs C who plays golf. I was thinking about doing a lads golf thing, but it's too much hassle, as those that have organised things on here know, so now will just do it as a thing for us. My idea is a week somewhere and play 3 times. There is no way the wife is going to play anymore than that!

Forgot to add: what time of year? Portugal or southern Spain are a lot more appealing in March than in August…
If there’s a “I wouldn’t pay more than that for a round” limit then that could help narrow things too.

The first thing I would do is speak to one of the golf booking companies, who are all the rage these days.

From my limited experience, they get better deals on course availability and pricing than doing it yourself and sure they have many couples trips behind them.

I don't think I would even try to do it myself again.

Would they do it for just 2 people though?
If it was me I would go somewhere I wanted to go on holiday and just play twilight somewhere nearby.
It sounds like the golf is not the main reason for going, at least for Mrs CF

I mean if you want to do Kent Coast and can only play 3 times you’d be hard pressed to find better than to play Royal Cinque Porte, Royal St George’s and Princes. Though that would be a big dent to the wallet in green fees before you’ve even considered travel, accommodation and food costs. You’d likely get better VFM doing a Portugal/Southern Spain package golf trip, early morning or late afternoon on rounds being a bit cheaper and you get a proper holiday

If it was just for me I’d likely go with the Pilgrimage to Scotland, some amazing course at unbelievable value, but with Mrs M I’d err on the side of abroad as a holiday first golf 2nd set up. Ultimately you need figure what the budget is and what the main appeals will be for you both then choose from there.

Yes, they would.

I would obviously state where I would like to go and let them fit the golf around that.

But it's not about me and the OP, who stated 'a proper golf trip with a couple of big courses to be played', so I'd say the golf is a focus.

If they do it for couples yeah I would call them tell them what I wanted and budget and see what they come back with

Budget is the big one here. Once we know what CF is open to spending then everyone can make suggestions. Until then, it's tricky.

If you’re looking at a week and only three rounds then what else would you be looking to do? And as others have said, budget is a key consideration.

Impossible to answer the question really until we have a bit of a steer.

Pinehurst is really nice or on the other hand there is Ashbury Manor, which also has loads of courses and things to do.

I thought it sounded like the top raffle prize compared to the prize I actually won

If you highlight your approximate budget then you can be provided with appropriate recommendations

No point in people saying go play the 3 W’s if your budget is £300 each including hotel

Unfortunately I can’t give a decent comparison of the two venues, although we’ve been to Pinehurst twice, I haven’t yet been to Ashbury (but I do hear it is great value).

I got an email from Chaka about Pinehurst this afternoon. Giving it some serious thought.

I went to Ashbury mamy years ago. As a serious golf venue it's not good. As a cheap place to go with a Society, as you say, great value.
