How big are you?

He hit our first hole with a 3 iron which is 310 yards and our 3rd hole which is 275 with a 6 iron it is down hill though.

Must win the bertie bull**** award. 275 with a 6 iron. He must be hitting down a bloody mountain. I doubt Daly hits 300 yard 3 irons in his dreams.

Why oh why oh why??!! :D

Whatever, bet you all these ''big hitters'' reckon they have unbelievably huge schlongs an all.

Just for the record I recorded one today which ran out to 328 yards into the wind but I caught it a bit out the neck......................................................................and if you believe this and many others accounts of how far they hit it then you are even more stupid than I could ever give you all credit for. :p

For the record I have today watched the cream of English under 18 golf playing at my home club and at 17,which was playing down a 15 mph wind from an elevated tee they were averaging around the 300 yard mark total with the longest being around 340 and these fellas are supple and play off plus figure and were playing on hard/fast running links turf.

Took a while :)

Fed up of hearing on here i hit the ball 300 yards blah blah blah if you can't chip and putt then whats the point because thats where you score.

During The Open qualifying at my place there was a young Swedish guy who drove the 2nd and nearly drove the 10 th ,watching him hitting was different class but his short game was ropey, thats where it count's guys.

Why worry about how far someone else hits or claims to hit the ball?
If someone can genuinely hit 300 off the tee then good for them. If they're stretching the truth a bit then let them live in their own little world, its not doing anyone else any harm.
I hit a 7 iron 175 yards at the Ascot meet. Airmailed the 2nd green from 155 out. Can't explain why. Hawkeye was there and he found the ball in the clag. So what if I did. Normally it doesn't happen. I've hit 300 yard drives - in certain circumstances. On a dry day at a downhill par 3 at my old course I hit the green 165 yards away with a Sand Wedge because it rolled most of the way there.

Who cares?

What has John Daly got to do with it, he's long but he's not anywhere near the longest player in the world. It is a quite a long way down hill though. Even so there are peolpe out there who just kill the ball, I'm definitely not one of them though. I'm not saying that's the norm for him but it's been done.
Why would I bull **** about someone else i'm hardly blowing my old trumpet. We have an older player at our club who entered a long drive competition in the uk. He came 2nd to a Swedish chap, he only lost by 10 yards hitting it 315 into a strong wind and he isn't anywhere near as long as the player I've bull ****ed about.
I don't want to start an argument about it there's no point. It's just a forum and I thught I'd give my 2 cents.

The two things guaranteed to cause disagreements in golf are discussions regarding either handicaps or driving distances....

Case in point? Cooden last Friday. I was playing with Steve (Viscount17) who, whilst being a lovely guy, would never claim to be the biggest hitter of a golf ball.
15th hole, par 5. 478 yards. He hit his driver. The minute he struck it I knew it was going to be long. He caught it with topspin, slightly drawing. The ideal ingredients. It bounced and bounced down the rock hard fairway, helped by a tail wind. We measured it out on the SkyCaddie. 313 yards. He was chuffed. Which left 165 yards to go. Wedge, to the back of the green. So driver, wedge to a par 5. Shame he 3 putted but there you go. It was possible, on the day and in those circumstances , for him. On a January day, with the wind howling into his boat, and a wet fairway??? Nah. Never. Not in a million years. Two woods and a mid iron.

Interested to read that Homer thinks 230-240 is short? I would guess that that distance is above the "UK average" driving distance.

My recent driver fitting with Ping showed that my average carry was always between 230-240, I would say that for me these stats are about right, possibly even a bit generous however I would be willing to bet that 90% of UK golfers who claim to nail it 280 plus struggle to REGULARLY reach 250. Even I've hit the occasional corker that's gone over 300 yards, usually down wind, down hill and it's ran about 80 yards.

As Smiffy pointed out about the guy who hit the par 5 with driver wedge, it's still about getting it in the hole. Maybe people should try and move on from this obsession about distance.

To be fair Craw, Steve was in 3 putt country. Even I would have struggled to get down in two from there
:D

Then get yourself a belly putter.
You could fit one of those suckers to the end of the grip to get the golf ball out of the hole.
That would also save getting creases in your new troos.

I don't charge for all this brilliant advice you know

Did your 8.00am appointment not turn up????
;)

I hit a 4i 244 at Cooden. Trouble is, my driver only went 100, which was why I was hitting the 4i next.

I doubt if I carry 220 with a driver. I guess that makes me short off the tee. Oddly, when I play, it's not often that I am the shortest (ok, round The London I was, but that was with AW, HTL and RickG, who are driving gods). I find this odd. On here I must be among the shortest hitters. At my club, I'm not. How does that work?
