How big a percentage is golf in your life?

Just think of David Gates (Bread) song - presumably directed at the love of his life

"I would give anything I own,
Give up my life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own,
just to have you back again"

Notice there's no mention of giving up golf.

That's me.

(If you're reading, dear, doesn't include you ...)

If I'm not playing I'm practicing, reading books/magazines, Internet & forums or just damn thinking about it. So it's family then golf, then anything else! Funnily the wide said to me the other day "I think you getting a bit obsessed with golf" I thought getting! I must of hidden it well for ages!! I know I've got a problem as last week I was busy doing jobs in the evening and the weather meant I couldn't get out on the course too. I was climbing the walls and very anxious as I hadn't swung a club all week! This week is similar! Think I need help, or maybe not!

right, time to be honest, in the grand scheme of things how important is golf in your life compared to..
family
work
friends
other sports/hobbies

and be totally honest!

It doesnt pay the bills, however it is my favourite sport for playing and watching, definetly start looking forward to the weekend from Thursday onwards. All in all fairly important to me.

How things change -

Before I was 40

Rugby (playing, following Wales, drinking, drinking & more drinking!)
Family (divorced twice :( - see above!)
Cars
Work

Since Turning 40

Family (re-married 2nd wife )
Golf
Cars
Work
Rugby

I'm not sure how I'd quantify it in terms of percentage but if I'm not at home or out with Mrs H and the dogs, it's probable I'm at work or golf. Most of my disposable income gets spent on golf related items and my mother in law is starting to think I'm avoiding her as whenever she comes up to see us, I'm at golf. So I guess it is right up there in the scheme of things

You mean there is more to life than golf? Surely some mistake. To be fair HID and I don't have kids and apart from my mum who is very ill there is little else that gets in the way. It is perhaps all consuming but the wife realises it is a big part of my life and does a lot to make sure I can play and practice when and where I want so to be honest I have it all pretty good.

As it happens my mum is getting worse and I fear time is starting to tick too fast and so a lot of weekends are dashes up the motorway now to spend as much time as I can up there. Sometimes even for a golf freak like me there are times when it is totally unimportant.

Ive just asked the misses, and she reckons 30%.
That to be honest is just playing.
Its in my head constantly,im aways thinking of ways to improve.
After the Woodhall meet,i can safely say i will be adding 10% to the
total.
After seeing Region and Madaddeys driving,i know i need to improve
that part of my game the most.

Like many I would play every day if i could, but l have a wonderful family, so as most things it life it is getting the balance right!

If it comes to "spare money" then it is 100% :D
