Hot working conditions - what can you wear to work?

Yep we have about 100 odd years to go before we reach the 21st century

You do have a dress code of business wear and provided that you stick to that you won't be had a word with by any powers that be but what actually happens is for example a young chap will turn up at work wearing something perfectly suitable but non conformist such as brown shoes a short sleeved shirt a waistcoat or any of the other items referred to in my earlier post. A few supercilious idiots will then rip the hell out of them for days. They will call it just banter but it's not its far worse than that. The young chap will then comply.

It is not as bad as it was in the 80s or 90s as I have heard stories of Pockets being physically ripped off shoes being painted black and ties being snipped. Whilst these are stories I wouldn't be surprised if they did actually happen.

Bullying is something I abhor and unfortunately up in the City it is rife and in many forms you have a lot of people who only have a flashy suit to offer.

know the feeling, so glad i got out when i did. don't miss it in the slightest ( well maybe the bonuses ;))

Full suit and ties although a tie is optional now unless in formal meetings.

OK in work as it's an A/c office but the commute is hell in a pair of trousers or a faff if you want to get changed

I work in a very backward looking industry (financial services in the City) where as a male if you came in wearing the following you would get roasted:

Short Sleeve shirt
Shirt with a pocket
Single cuffs
anything other than an English vented suit jacket
Less than 4 buttons on suit sleeves
Brown shoes

Women can wear what they like provided it sort of looks officey.

I am glad to read that they finally dropped the requirement for a bowler hat.

I work in an accountancy practice and for the past eight years or so there has been no requirement to wear a tie unless meeting a client and depending on the client ties are not always required. Dress is far more casual than it used to be.

We have dress down Fridays where it used to be smart casual, but one of the partners turns up in shorts and flip flops and so now anything goes.

full fire kit😁. i spent 8 hours on a grass fire yesterday. in that time i drank 9 litres of water. what's crazy is i didn't go to the toilet once...

Really feeling for our nursing and auxillary staff having to wear their uniforms every day. The material is not modern and not designed for such conditions. Us in admin roles are simply in smart casual but women definitely at an advantage in what they can wear. Men are in long trousers and no allowance for smart shorts in the dress code
