hopes and dreams for the season ahead?

HOMER i have not looked at your rate my golf score on a previous post[for the mental side]or the playing side either, however i have read a lot of your posts and i cant believe how negative you are about your golf in peticular, you must be a good player to have the handicap 11.3.You also have regular lessons[why]they wont help you because your so negative, short fix they probably do,long term i doubt it.14% from 120 yrds is rediculously low for an 11 handicapper.Maybe next time you spend your hard earned cash on a lesson ask him about PMA it works.
I'm afraid I have to agree here. I think it's time you took a long break from the lessons and practice and just go back to playing and enjoying golf. 11 is a decent handicap to carry and you must be a reasonably competent player. How much do you enjoy your golf at present? the relentless pursuit of single figures will mess you up in the end. Take a break and just go out and enjoy playing the game for a bit. This isn't meant to sound like having a go. It's meant well mate.

PJ

As I've mentioned on here and the blog I'm doing some mental training in April with a top sports psychologist who's done some work on the European Tour. To be fair I don't actually think I'm negative at all but realistic. My short game stinks. Ask HTL who saw it close up on Saturday. That's being realistic and I need a professional to have a look and set it straight.

I actually think your a tad out of line as you don't know me, my game or the way I think but thats your view and I'm prepared to let it go. TBH the 14% GIR is for all approach shots and not just from 120 and in so you're being inaccurate. If you bothered to read my posts on here and the blog I'm actually in the process of making some pretty hefty swing changes and the lessons are working but progress will be slow. Inevitably if I practice and don't always see the rewards I'd hope for then I'm going to be a bit down on myself.

This isn't the first post you've put up having a dig at my swing and my approach here and in other lounges and clearly you're a much better golfer than me who knows how to get the most from his game. I'm comfortable with my approach, my mental attitude (new meaner Homer is a fundamental for the blog and my season) and happy that I'm going ot be getting top quality information in a few months time and not the thoughts of a random guy on here.

No i dont think im out of line but im willing to let it go this time,im not looking for an argument lifes too short, but it seems to me you have an answer to everyone elses problems but cant seem to sort out your own.By the way someone else agreed with me.

gentlemen,gentlemen.....i didnt start this post so that you guys can have a go at each other! i just wanted to know what the forum hoped for this season! lets all just think birdies and eagles.....

Golfers differ as do every other segment of society.
Some like to learn on their own, some with help and some want to analyse it in minute detail.
Who's to say who's wrong.
I'm sure you all know some of each kind.
We just have to live and let live and not try to change someone because they dont do things their way.

I think there is a huge difference between being negative and overly self critical. Okay, it's a very narrow margin, and one that I have a tendecy to flit between one side and the other. (As those that have played with me will know!)

It's about how you handle failure, or at least disappointment. Which is something that we as golfers get all to frequently if we really want to improve. If we were happy at our current level we just wouldn't worry about it. But for many of us it's about getting better, whether that be from 28 to 18 or from 12 to single figures. We all have the same frustrations and issues.

There are some reasonably good players that higher h'cappers could only aspire to reaching, that are making huge changes to their swings this year. Some of us might wonder why, they're already comptent players, so why change? Simply put, it's to improve. Some go about it one way, and some go about it another way. But the key to what ever method is chosen is the mental game.

This might seem quite strange coming from one that can be so negative (self critical) of my own game, but the tone that these changes come across on here can be quite revealing. Mine probably come across as quite negative. It's not intended that way, but it might just reveal what I'm really thinking (even if I don't know it myself!).

I don't think that anyone was having a real pop at you Homer, but maybe your scribblings on here and on the blog are reveaing something that you're not even aware of.

Personalities do come across on this forum through the written word, and perhaps others have built this picture over time. Don't take it negatively (again, a little give away perhaps?) but I think that the comments were meant constructively.

Keep at it. And good luck with the shrink! :D

we are all here to help each other, not criticise, right? i think all aspects of advice/analysis are good, its up to the individual to take on board whichever part he chooses! Negativity/positivity are all part of our beautiful game!

My aim is to get down to 3 this year, I'm currently 4.8 so only 1.4 to go. I've got to start holing more putts if I'm going to reach my goal, I hit lots of GIR's it's around 70-75% but I miss far too many putts. Another thing is improve my course management, I'm instanty drawn to the driver on most holes when I know deep down the better play would be a 3 wood or 3 iron and make sure the ball is in the fairway.
