Tomorrow I am hoping to go and have a round at my club!

What's great about that?

I haven't swung a club in weeks. The last time was at the range the night after bonfire night.
The dreadful weather resulting in course closures, winter tees and greens have made it difficult to get out there and play.
Missed today due to going to the footy this afternoon but all being well, it's looking god for a round tomorrow as long as it doesn't get too cold overnight.

I do know the par 3's are all off winter tees but all greens are in play so far.

I get the feeling I won't be sleeping too well tonight, I still get excited the night before a round.

Clubs cleaned and shiny, shoes bulled up nicely, ready to go. Looking forward to blowing away the post Christmas cobwebs the best way .......... out on the course.

One thing that interests me, when do the competitions start on your course? Ours don't start until round early springtime. However, there are several "friendly, non official" competitions played between members when conditiond allow.

Our competitions are pretty much all year round. There is a monthly medal and stableford every month and there have been a few Christmas events (turkey trot and team events).

February has the 4ball better ball stableford and in March the qualifiers for knockouts and gold board events start. From then on it is the two monthly medals and usually at least one more event per month. Then the club matches (friendly but competitive) start in April and from May onwards the scratch team events.

Club Championship (36 holes medal) usually around July/August and it starts to culminate with the Masters (invite only 36 hole medal open only to competition winners over the past 12 months) and finishing with Finals Day. Tends to revert back to the two monthly events then.

Its a pretty full competition calender which is a great feature of the club. All events are drawn so you never get the same partners twice which means you get to meet loads of different guys and that helps keep it interesting.

I hope the weather is pretty kind to you and you get to play tomorrow. Go out with an open mind and don't expect too much after such a break. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

We have compys all through the year, even when we go off winter tees. We run winter league and we have a couple of stablefords per month along with other bits and pieces.

Once we get back onto the grass tees the season really gets going.

We have comps the year round its just during the winter they are non qualifying.
Its been pretty mild recently, it hasnt rained over here in over 2 weeks now and the course is getting a bit of bounce back again which isnt bad for a partially clay based parkland.
Saturday comps are down to 9 holes now although Sundays are a better day where 18 is still on and there is a very good turn out for the society within the main club, the polar bears. I prefer sundays in the winter. Anyone else have societies in the ir club to keep things interesting in the darker months?

Ventured onto my own course this afternoon for a round, to find that we had an impromptu Stableford today.

fabulous afternoon, all tees/greens in play, but parts of the course were hard solid, and the last 5/6 holes you could feel the grass crisping beneath your feet as the temp dropped rapidly.

Still, fabulous day, only wish every winter day was like this afternoon here, cold and sunny, and my fabulous 4 over gross front 9 was only marred by my less than fabulous 11 over back 9. :-(

Still, its winter, Ive hardly played at all, so I'm happy. :))

Went up to the club today and everything was frozen solid and a white out ont he fairways. There was the new year social competition playing but all the greens were temps and to be fair everyone looked frozen. I decided to go to the range instead of the practice ground (heated bays!!) and have to say I was hitting the ball pretty solidly. THe down side is now I have hit some form again I go back to work tomorrow  :(

Well, laziness got the better of me and I had a much needed lie in this morning.
Slouched around the house, drinking coffee and watching a bit of tv.

Got my gear on and set off for the course just after lunchtime. Beautiful sunny but cold afternoon.

Teed one up on the 1st....... boy you could tell I was a bit rusty. Wicked slice into the trees! Teed up another, same again!

As I was playing by myself I retrieved the balls and wandered along to the 14th. The course was very quiet with only a few fourballs, pairs and solo golfers playing.
Played the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th. By the 16th I had got my swing back and playing quite well.
Nipped over to the 14th and played on.

Chuffed to bits to be back playing again. My 1st tee faux pas forgotten now, can't wait until I get back out there again. Hopefully next weekend.

Our course was in excellent condition for this time of the year, out in 36 (par37) and home in 38 (par 34) for a round of 74 (+3) and apart from a couple of under hit chips and a hooked 3 wood, happy all the same.
Its supposed to be getting a little colder this week, weekend will be dry but cold and the rain makes an unwelcome return about the following tuesday so enjoy the thawed out courses while you can. Its not going to be long before the usual winter weather returns.
