We had the misfortune of being burgled a couple years ago so got a Risco alarm fitted. Its great...all wireless, so you can add extra sensors to suit, comes with an internal camera that takes images when prompted, or in the event of an alarm going off, and can all be controlled via your mobile - handy as I can set/unset it as I am in the car on the drive.

You get an alert if it goes off on your phone and can see all set/unset activity., as well as viewing images.

Cant remember the exact cost, but was under £1000 fitted. Can be easily removed too if we moved house as only the main unit is plugged in to the mains and your internet router (done with a secured locked casing so a thief can't disconnect or turn it off).

So I've not gone down the Maplins route. Instead I've gone for a local firm with good credentials.
System I'm getting is 2 cameras with 5 mega pixel, recording hard drive with 18 days time lapse.
Cost £626 including vat and fitting.
I know the director and he advised against Swann.
