As the title goes.. looking for recommendations for home CCTV + Alarm kits. Now 9 out of 10 home burglaries are unsolved. The ADT type monitored service does not seem to be more than just a glorified alarm

self fitted ones not great and even then, they are as good as the fitter, probably worse. if you are serious about it, get a proper company in. If you want a number, my brother fits alarms and CCTV for a living. Does a lot of work around surrey for the Chelsea rent boys houses.
 
Have a word with your insurance company. They might have a list of approved companies and offer a discount on your premiums when installed.
 
Baghead for one from maplin, it synchs with his phone so when he is on holiday he logs in and sees what the weather is like at home. Very very good
 
This is something I'm looking at. After going to Maplins for advice, they arranged a free no obligation visit from a specialist.
I was very impressed with the guy who came out and currently waiting for his written report. For my needs he's recommended 3 cameras with good night vision. Cost whys it's looking at £600-£700 including fitting. The cost of fitting bumps it up by £260

Sounds very interesting.. assume this is all wireless rather than wired? We have some building work coming up and I can get the sparky to do some chasing.

BTW, does CCTV or Home Systems need any type of certification?
 
^^^ your insurer might want a certificate from a professional installer if you're after a discount.

Legally, I think, your are not supposed to have it pointing at or showing on other people's property.
 
We used Alhua branded stuff at work... Being a commercial property we didn't have to worry about how pretty the wiring was... But, the quality of the images was spot on... Which is what it is all about [I think]..
 
I had the Hive heating system installed last week, and was looking at the security devices that you can add on.

Fancied the camera which can record any movements, until I found out that it does not save images remotely to a cloud server, so all the burglar has to do is nick the camera, and there is no trace of him!

There are also sensors you can attach to a door or window, but I'm not sure I fancy getting an alert to my phone that my front door has been opened when I'm sat on a foreign beach ...

No, it's a wired system with recoding to a box with sensor monitoring, so no hours of recording nothing. In addition also able to monitor remotely with i phone.
Don't want wireless as batteries are needed and they are quite expensive. Also I want to record to a device rather than cloud.
Regards neighbours you can have the cameras overlooking their property, however if they express concerns you can alter the image and have that part boarded off.
 
Avoid ADT like the plague

had an alarm fitted.. worked ok.. not great.. £30 pm or whatever it was.. got out of the contract midway through .. they said keep the alarm I thought happy days

alarm went off because when we came in house it stopped talking to the box for like 20 seconds whilst trying to get the keyfob to scan.. fine I thought not as issue

needed an eng to be reset it said... they said £200 for one to come out.. couldnt provide a reset code now we had left them

I ripped said alarm off the wall (took all of 2 mins to disable it to useless and I am not a professional)

installed a yale system the next week for like £400 for everything I wanted.. 2 x smoke alarm... more sensors than before.. controlled from an app..

least I can reset it now!

on a side note 2 years previous we had CCTV installed in the house for £700 which has 4 HD cameras and records 2 weeks worth at a time on a hardrive

combined with the alarm does make you feel safe at night

whats that old saying.. if you want your house to not be broken into just make it that bit harder to break into than next door
 
I would be very wary of telling the house insurer that I had an alarm fitted. It could give them an excuse to not pay out if there was a break in and you had forgotten to set it.

Exactly this . They offer slight discount for telling them you have an alarm but then you have to set it every time you go to bed or out

If we have guests we don’t set at night as they won’t be able to switch it off

Insurance wouldn’t pay out if break in

Just don’t bother telling them anymore

This is very interesting... i never realised that, just assumed that we got a discount for saying yes. I did a dummy quote on Direct line with and without alarm... and there is no difference.. <angry face>
 
I would recommend the Ring products, I've just installed a Ring Doorbell pro which records movement and allows two way audio so you can talk to people who are outside your house. It records motion and alerts you on your phone. You can also pay for the cloud storage so all the recordings are stored and available online. Also, if the doorbell is stolen, Ring will replace it.

They also do PIR spotlights and standard cameras for outside which do the same.

We've just had new windows and doors fitted, which makes the house a lot more secure and as part of that I've been looking at our aging Alarm system that is currently inplace as I had to change the door contacts at the front and back, it worked when we moved in, but when we had a power cut we found that the battery was dead when the power came back up, tamper mode went crazy until i could pull the plug. It hasn't really been the same since, but all the connections are there to put a new one in or reconfigure the old one. We have an old ADE Accenta alarm system. I'm not sure how confident id be setting it and leaving it if i've set it up!

Our new door comes with a highly secure lock, so I am more confident we are secure now!

I think alarm systems have to be monitored by a recognised company, before an insurance company will give a discount.
I have a Mach2 OYN-X system using 4 QVIS Eye-4MP , POI cameras , 3 outside and 1 internal, all with face recognition, motion detection, NVR/ HDMI, cloud storage back up , accessible by smart phone via Orpheus.
Plus my guard dog just in case ,Image003.jpg
