Hi all, I'm looking for a decent holidays destination. My other half is 30 in september and wanting to go away for her birthday. I've been to Mexico the past 5 years so that is out of the question. Ideally im looking for all inclusive but dont mind if not. Any of you good folfkgot any ideas?

Southern Italy, Sardinia or Sicily. A two centre jobbie. Rome for the first week, then move onto a beach to chill.

A mate went to Cuba last year and loved it. Egypt is pretty nice but make sure you go for a top notch hotel.

September is approaching hurricane season in the Caribbean which rules out the Dominican Republic as an alternative to Mexico. You could try Portugal. We stayed at the Riu Gurana in the Algarve, just a couple of miles away from Vilamoura, early September last year. Great food and great weather and we booked through Thomson. You could also try First Choice as they are apparently only dealing with all inclusive holidays.

I absolutely loved Switzerland. Such a beautiful country, it has a reputation of being expensive but in my opinion it wasn't any worse than rip off GB. In fact I found the railways to be cheaper and much better than ours plus eating out was cheaper, at worst comparable.

Personally I cant see past going to the US, you could have 2 weeks in Florida, a 2 week east coast road trip starting in Boston ending Miami or a west coast trip out San Fran, Sacramento, LA and Vegas.

Plenty options in the states.

We going again in May for the 5th time and we absolutely love it, so many things to do and see and the missus will love the shopping (leaving you time for a round of golf while she shops)

I too will be going May and golfing in Florida is ace, almost as good as golfing in Scotland (but with better weather)

I've booked a week in the Maldives as a special treat for my wife and I in October. Sadly the Islands too small to have a golf course.
I also agree Florida is a fantastic place to go to for a few weeks.

Love Mexico myself but you've ruled that out!

Not "chilling" holidays (or all inclusive) but 2 of the best holidays we had (before kids!) were:

- Toronto and Montreal, flew to Toronto, train to Montreal. Really loved it there and a mix of things to do and see and relax

- California - bit of a fly drive but hardly any driving really. the company I used was bon voyage (I think). There's loads of routes so you don't end up driving 200km a day and they can tailor to suit.

I used to live in washington and I can't recommend it enough, loads of stuff to do, and if you fancy going somewhere else its only a 2 hour train journey to new york or a 3 hour trip to a great town on the coast (forgotten the name sorry!) oh and while youre there you could always sneak off and go for a quick round at congressional i can't tell you how jealous i am of my uncle who got to play it whilst on a business trip!

Blimey Craw, how on earth did you not find Switzerland expensive - when did you go ? In Jan and Sug this year i couldnt afford to leave teh chalet - £23 for the cheapest take away Margherita Pizza ???


Still, fantastically beautiful country that i would go back to time and time again when i win the lottery, or teh exchange rate gets back to 2.25 instead of 1.15

Fly to Calgary, drive to Banff, play golf, drive the Icefields Parkway through the Rockies to Jasper, play golf. Come back through Lake Louise. Get internal flight to Vancouver, and drive the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler and play golf.

Not your coast pie and peas crap but real food and not a word of English,beautiful country,beautiful food and wine and beautifully friendly people.

September is not the easiest time of year to travel. Hurricane season kills off a lot of options and the monsoon season does for places like Thailand (which I love, friendly people great beaches, good golf, dirt cheap once you get there).

If you have the cash to go, Mauritius is heaven, great weather, top climate, superb food, great golf courses. Given the choice I would go there every year but getting there is not cheap.

My family are from Northern Spain and is a fantastic place to visit.
