Also, we are not talking about today, if I were off on holiday today then yes, you would be completely correct and I would be a cretin however I am talking about a booking made for mid-August at which time, I hope, we are not under today's restrictions.

I know. Similarly - as we made a booking back in October for a week in Cornwall in June. At the time we thought it a very reasonable assumption that the country would in a 'better place' today than it actually is. Though still hopeful that if things continue on current track we could/should be OK for it. But I doubt that I'd be booking the same week were I booking a UK break today.

Trouble is all the mixed messages Grant Shapps saying don’t book holidays home or abroad and Matt Hancock saying on the same day that he’s booked a holiday to Cornwall ??‍

If all people who are at risk of serious illness will be vaccinated by early May, why could we still be in lockdown in July/August?

My 34yr old daughter who is a physio but was required to work on the front-line (all be it only when full PPE was in us) is suffering from long-covid. She has had to have 7 months off work & is still just being gradually re-integrated. She has no underlying conditions & in fact has been an elite athlete since the age of 10 & up until last year, in the UK top 40 Cross-fit athletes. Now unable to train fully even if she was allowed. Recent tests have exposed signs of a heart irregularity that may have resulted from Covid but due to hospital demands, she still awaits an appointment for further investigation.
I think we need to remember that EVERYONE is possibly vulnerable to the effects of Covid we just don't know in which way it may be.

Not a problem Ken. I was just further illustrating how Covid is choking-up the hospitals as well as affecting more than just the old & vulnerable. Thankfully she is in the safe hands of the Bradford specialists who are investigating the effects of long Covid but are still unable to hasten her further heart investigations.
The BBC have approached her again with a view to continuing to highlight Long Covid but she's reluctant to do so following the abuse & trolling she received from that previous link. Sad world

Sorry to read this - hope she's on the mend soon. I've got a friend in their 40s - no pre-existing conditions - who had covid which then became pneumonia. He's just got out of hospital. Its scary, and like you say, can affect anyone. I look at the way Aus/NZ have managed it with envy.

Yeah, I guess Wimbledon is going to look incredibly different this year if it goes ahead. Reduced numbers, if any, & no Murray-mount. It's gonna be a very different world for quite sometime.

Please bear in mind that trying to predict the future in this pandemic is going to be guess work where holidays outside the UK are concerned. Even if vaccination levels are high in the UK what about your destination country? Will they recognise your vaccine as adequate if you have had the Astra Zeneca vaccine and let you in? By autumn there could well be further virus variations just to add a bit more spice to the mix.
Oh and your travel insurance will make interesting reading in the Covid clauses

It's not depressing if you take your holidays in the UK for 2021. I'm sure the UK tourist industry would be very grateful of any extra income.

No guarantees, you’re right however if pubs etc are still closed (or even restricted with opening hours) come August time then the hospitality industry will be done for. Given what we saw last summer with the virus pretty much dying out I can’t see the restrictions being in place. Come next Autumn we should have enough immunity through vaccinations and improved drug treatments that we will have to live with Covid as we do with flu.

There are no guarantees with anything, however many millions holidayed in the UK last summer and we look like being in a far better place this year than last (this lockdown was 2 ½ months earlier than last year) and most of the adult population will have had at least their first jab by then (we are jabbing 6% of the adult population per week at the moment). So the odds of UK holidays taking place with some minor restrictions are significanly better.

Have a week up at the fishing lodge on the river Deveron sorted for August. Sort of a banker in that it’s in the UK and it’s more than likely to go ahead.

Trips abroad, I booked my flights to South Africa for a trip in September in October last year. Just me for 9 days (no wife or kids) It may or may not go ahead. Don’t know yet but I’m on the plane if it does happen. If it’s cancelled then I get the money back. Not a difficult decision really.

I would also add on some other trips if we were able to. We would go to France or Turkey as a family for a week too.

if there are still elements of lockdown, like bars, resturants and toursit attractions closed then it has little benifit to local com. Last year we were flooded with camper vans and lots of wild camping, with no facilities open to cope. the end result lots of dirty camping and littering of beauty spots. egot so bad the they had to have a debate in SP about dirty camping and discussions are ongoing on enforcement of the OAC

Our annual boys trip to Portugal has already been re-arranged twice, am about to push it back again today, most likely to the end of September.

Mrs Wedge hasn't been home to see her mum since July 2019. We're hoping to get back to Japan this summer, especially as there's a special anniversary ceremony for her dad's death that she wants to attend.

Hadn't gotten around to changing this when unsurprisingly BA cancelled our flights yesterday. Have now pencilled in for mid October

Pubs and Restaurants will start opening up in April or at the very latest early May - the hospitality industry which contributes so much to the economy will be busted if it doesn’t - the financial future will also be key.

Looks like it may be a tough year for some parts of the Mediterranean tourist industry - that will have a massive effect on the countries most hit as it is a significant part of their economies. However, if things progress as they are at the moment, it will be a boom summer onwards for the UK tourist industry.
Could I ask all of you who are thinking of Devon and Cornwall to avoid the M5 past Bristol on weekend mornings as I zip down a couple of junctions to get to the morning roll up - thanks.
