Hole lengths

Par 3 - 165
Par 4 - 400
Par 5 - 520

Yep that looks pretty good to me give or take a few yards.

I.e nominally GIR =
Par 3 Mid iron
Par 4 Drive and mid iron
Par 5 Drive, fairway, wedge.

Perfect :)

Once upon a time only the best players would be looking at reaching a par 5 in 2. However it seems that with the new technology and the pro's getting on with a drive and an iron we now tend to think we should have a chance of putting for an eagle. In my view a classic par 5 should be a genuine 3 shotter for most players with the emphasis on tactical play to put your ball in the best place to play your third to the green. Either that or, if it is reachable, there is real risk to balance the reward (e.g. 13 and 15 at Augusta).

I think 520 is a bit on the long side because even with a drive of 280 which is fairly long I think for most handicap golfers you've still another 240 to go. I think a 280 drive should be rewarded with a slightly easier shot than that into a par 5 green

Why should you get an easy second shot into a 3 shot hole? It's risk and reward.
