Hodgson has left Liverpool 'by mutual consent'. Is 6 months long enough for any manager to build a team?

Hodgson has had 6 months in charge of a bunch of dudds and now he has been bagged.

The most unsurpriseing sacking ever, Roy was never big enough for Liverpool, he bought as if he was still at a small club and looked out of his depth from the first day, sad because he seems like a nice guy but was never going to work.

Dagleish will not fair any better

Re: Hodgeson gone...

Not given nearly enough time to sort out the mess he inherited. Hodgson is a great manager and its a pity that they didnt let him alone to do his job.

Liverpool could have gone and won the next 3 league games and they would have been saying Liverpool for Europe. Crazy decision in my opinion and just another example of pressing the panic button.

Mark my words Hoghson will be a premier league manager again , probably by the end of this season, perhapa at West Ham or even back to Fulham. He doesnt become a bad manager over night, this is more of a reflection of how bad things are at Liverpool I think. Dalglish may spark a mini revival (as most incoming managers do) but it wont be sustainable and Liverpool will fall away rapidly and most likley just avoid the drop.

I dont even support Liverpool but I do feel angry about sacking Hodgson.

Re: Hodgeson gone...

Shame as he inherited a poor squad from Benitez and hasn't had the time to put his own mark on the club. Think he is a good manager who will no doubt be managing in the PL before the season is out.

Kenny Dalglish for the remainder of the season? Poor choice - been out of the managerial game for a long while now and doubt whether he can turn things around. Never rated him as a manager. Inherited a great Liverpool team and left when they started to get too old and started to slide. Took over at Blackburn where there was a shedload of cash and effectively bought the title, then left them when that started to go wrong. Did nothing at Newcastle.

Re: Hodgeson gone...

as much as he inherited a mediocre squad there is still enough quality there. Look at what other clubs do with much worse squads but a good team ethic and a manager who gets the best out of them!

I am a Liverpool fan of over 30 years and for the last 15 or so have given up any chances of winning the league by christmas. Cups aside we just dont seem to have the right mentality regardless of manager for a 38 game league campaign.

Dalglish may not be the answer but he does know what the fans want and has had success with the club before which at least in the short term can only bode well.

Roy Hodgson was never right for the club, thats no disrespect to hiim as he is a good manager. Who will solve the problem... pass!

I just want to see us playing positive football and enjoying the game again cos of late it looks like no-one wants to wear the famous red shirt or play for his team mates and the fans.

Time will tell :)

Can't help but feel it was done to try and give them a lift and a chance for T'mora's game against Utd, last chance of winning anything this season and new manager syndrome does have a habit of producing ONE good result.

Dalgleish, as has been stated inherited a good side and got out before they were in decline. Spent at Blackburn, Did nothing at the Toon.

Will be interesting to see if money is available in this window and who he spends it on but ultimately he will be just papering of the cracks.
Benitez spent poorly apart from a couple of signings and got out at the right time.

To me Dagleish is the reason Liverpool have not won the league in 20yrs, when he took over at Liverpool they were a winning machine, but he changed the way Liverpool they worked, I remeber when liverpool used to sign a player you would not see them for 6 months as they were being school'd in the Liverpool way dagleish changed it all.

Re: Hodgeson gone...

It's a shame for Hodgson. It's a chance he had to take but any manager taking over last summer would have had their work cut out what with the ownership issues.

Take each player individually and you think they are ok but put them together and they are just rank rotten.

Reina sums Liverpool up for me. Undoubted ability but very inconsistent.

As commented, Dalgleish is there to keep the masses happy. Will he still be the fans favourite come May when they have a mid table finish?

Let's see their reactions if Man U win 3/4/5 - 0 tomorrow lol.

Re: Hodgeson gone...

Why does everyone seem to think that he inherited a poor squad from Benitez?

Could the squad have been better? Yes.

Does the squad contain some very average players? Yes.

Is the squad poor? No.

Any team with Reina, Carragher, Agger, Johnson, Gerrard, Torres, Maxi, Kuyt is not a poor one. To those players was added: Meireles, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Cole and Konchesky.

This is not a poor squad. It should be pushing for a Europa League place. It isn't good enough for anything higher than that.

Hodgson has massively under-performed with the squad that he has. The performances have been consistently poor even when the results have actually gone Liverpool's way.

His track record as a manager prior to joining Liverpool was average at best. He was clearly not the right man for the job.

The above has been updated since I read it earlier in the week but 30 sackings this season. How are players meant to have loyalty to clubs when chairman are changing managers willy nilly. Managers bring in the players, so to remove the manager that maybe brought a player to a club what does that player then think?

No wonder clubs are going broke with the compensation they must be dishing out.

I guess the same could have been said of Ferguson after 6 months when he started at Man U. The fact is that it can take time to make your mark as manager. 6 months is not long enough by a long chalk, not when we know that the manager is worth his salt like Hodgson. The players he bought in are sticky plaster signings (on a budget) to sure things up in the short/mid term. Even seasoned pros need time to settle in new teams/formations. If left to his own devices do you really think the Hodgson team would be propping up the table after a full couple of seasons - I doubt it very much.

Utter garbage. One of the most consistently good keepers in the country for some time now.

Reina is one of if not the best keepers in the league and has been very consistent, as an Arsenal fan I would sign him today if possible.

Good Managers make players better, it is what Wenger is best at

Each to their own but I wouldn't spend money on Reina.

Of the top of my head there's the howlers in the Europa Lge and the recent goal in the defeat v's Wolves that have cost Liverpool this season.

I agree but would his team have been challenging for honours? Probably not.

He was a dead man walking as soon as the new owners came in. He was clearly not the sort of manager they were looking at for the long-term and why, therefore, would they back him in the transfer market?

Ferguson was completely different to Hodgson. He was much younger, had real drive and ambition and had a better track record. Ferguson then, is the kind of manager FSG are looking for now. Not a journeyman 63 year old manager,
