It seems to be getting a might chilly recently so the old hip flask is coming out of the cupboard and going back into the bag. Purely medicinal you understand. Now what brand of malt to fill up with?

Aberlour is well priced presently, could do a lot worse.

I've just checked. Aberdour is about £32 a round :D

Got 2 bottles of the stuff as prizes from this years and last years Captains Charity day!! Giving one up as a prize for the HDID meet at Slaley Hall that I can't get to next weekend.

Jameson's!!

Or, although not a malt, Tullamore Dew is a lovely, smooth blend.

Think Bowmore is nice though.

In my opinion if your after an Islay malt, you cant better a Bruichladdich.

Smoothest,Islay malt around, beautiful.

Talisker for me.

Highland park is a good alternative, probably my second favourite to talisker.

I have 2 hip-flask, one is filled with malt, the other with Woods rum.

Talisker, too bitter on the pallet for me! The water of Skye does not lend itself to good Whisky making in my opinion!

Not knowing what to buy mother in law for her 90th a few years ago, we asked her what she would like.

I'll have a bottle of that Farmhouse whisky she said. I can hide it from the nursing staff and it will be my little treat.

We eventually worked out that it must have been Famous Grouse that she wanted

:D :D

btw I've got an unopened bottle of Famous Grouse Vintage Malt 1989. Is it any good, and is it ready for drinking yet?? Mind you, it seems to be a blend including The Macallan, Highland Park and others so suppose it's not 100% kosher :p :p

Its a blended whisky. It wont appreciate in value and I would advise drinking and enjoy it, I'd imagine it'll be quite tasty considering it has Highland Park in it.

Some good malts been mentioned so far and after playing today in intermittant rain and a fair few degrees colder than last week I'll be getting the old flask ready for the winter season too.

Another vote for Talisker here but there are so many good malts it really depends on the mood at the time. Variety is the spice of life etc...

I am pretty new to drinking malt but was passed a glass of Laphroaig a month or so ago and really enjoyed it.

Any recommendations for malts with a similar taste that I should try.
