Interesting one this weekend, and just wondered if anyone else had ever had this happen, or what your thoughts are:

We were playing as a 3 ball, the 2 groups infront packed it in after 9 holes, so we had a couple of holes free before getting sight of the next group (a 2 ball).

We were teeing off straight away as no one was in range, or at first even on the same hole (and mostly out of sight by the time we reached the tee box).

But come the 14th, 2 of us had tee'd off (with irons to lay up short of the ditch at 220), when 2 people appeared at the side of the semi-rough. They were the group in front, who'd been looking for balls in the trees.

We hadn't seen them in the trees, they must have been in there for a good 5 minutes if not more (based on how we'd caught up with them), and no sign was left in view that they were on that hole.

Now, I was taught that you leave a bag/trolley in sight if you are all in the deep stuff. But obviously we shouldn't have played if they were still on that hole - to say they weren't happy is an understatement!

Any thought?

Problem of their own making for me, if they leave a bag on the edge of the fairway you dont hit your shots, do they expect you to be mind readers? They have no right being unhappy imho

Yep - daft

I nearly hit someone on our 15th

It's a blind tee shot

There was a three ball in front

We saw in the distance that there was three people on the green so I teed off

Only to then see a fourth person walk out of the tree and walk towards the green

He was still searching for his lost ball !! I missed him by inches it appears and he then had a go at me !!

If you can't see anyone how are you supposed to know they are there?
If you had been waiting on every tee for them to clear that's different but in this scenario a sorry guys didn't see you should of been enough surely.

maybe a shout on every tee box, like an aussie "Cooo Weeee" shout you use when lost in the outback. wait 10 seconds, if no response crack on!

The guys sound like the ends of bells, wouldnt worry about it.

You can't avoid people you can't see!

Yes to leaving bag by side of fairway.
No to leaving bag in middle of fairway as if to say "you're not coming through..." !!!

Nice to know that others think I'm/we're not at fault - I'm not too bothered by it, but it goes to show that there are many bits of etiquette/course awareness (like leaving a bag in view) that many golfers, of all ages, don't know.

Of course, playing devil's advocate, they most probably didn't think they needed to leave a bag as they thought you were far enough behind them.
But you are still NOT in the wrong

This seems very similar to an incident involving Homer at Camberley Heath!

Not a 'knob' after all! At least not for that event!
