I am really struggling to find a club I can use for the 185/200 yd distance off the fairway. My 3 wood off the deck is just too unpredictable at the moment (yet great off a tee) and I have a 26 degree 5i replacement which I love and gets me to the 170/180 yd mark really consistently yet my 3i replacement is useless in my hands at the moment. Would a 5 wood be easier to hit or is it just my technique?......ie should I hit my 3i replacement like an iron (trapping the ball) or like a wood (sweeping the ball)?
I would appreciate specific club suggestions (brands) as my beloved Benross isnt quite cutting it at the moment and I will be getting on the course soon and know I will ruin holes with the 3i replacement.

I tend to use my 3 hybrid as a fairway wood and go for more of a sweeping motion. Not sure that is the correct way to handle these clubs but it works for me at the moment so I'm not planning to change.

Its hard to say whether you would hit a 5 wood better or not. On the downside they are longer than a hybrid so that may exacerbate any swing flaws but on the plus side the head and therefore the sweetspot is larger and therefore more forgiving.

Why not pop down to your PGA pro and ask for some advice or try a few different clubs out and see what feels best

You could try one of the cross bred hybrid/fairway woods like the Wilson Fybrid or the Adams Insight XTD. Even think Benross are introducing one in their Innovator range. I use an Adams Insight 3 wood and love it because it hits like a hybrid but gives me 3 wood distance

I'm surprised you don't have a 5 wood. I'm also surprised how many players seem to have forgotten about them in general. For me, it's an absolute MUST. If I'm looking to progress the ball down a long hole, this is my favourite choice since I find it far more "guaranteed" than a 3 and only 10-15 yards (give or take) shorter. It's more like 20 yards off the tee, but nailing a 3 wood off the deck is quite a challenge for me.

In general, I play the club for the distance, but just to make up ground on a par 5 or unreachable par 4, the 5 wood gets my vote.

I'll post you my old Cally when Tony and I meet up to swap all our gear back, if you like, no charge, you know I still owe you a few quid!!

I love my 5 wood also. Fills me with confidence when I am stood over that beautiful head getting ready to spank one!

Debating on weather I need a hybrid or not...never tried one??? I can hit my 4 iron ok and have a 7 wood instead of my 3 iron.
