Hedgehog tyres

At our club next month if using a trolly you must fit it with hedgehog tyres. This is to " protect the course" but Im not sure if they will or do they cause more damage. Any thoughts. PS They cost £25 a pair in the pro shop.

I haven't had a go with them, but they seem a bit of a waste of time on a pull trolley. If you are prone to wheel spin with the old electric trolley, then yes, they will make a difference.

I prefer that trolleys are just marshalled down one side of the hole, rather than a trolley ban or hedgehogs.

One old dear at my old club used to drag her bag along the ground if there was a trolley ban. She was too frail to carry. Can't see how this did less damage.

Stupid thing at my course is we will go from a course closed, to a trolley ban, to trolleys allowed, to buggies, within one hour. How can it dry that quickly? It doesn't, it will just be a comittee member who wants to take a buggy out.

I would have thought hedgehogs protects the course, there are a couple of fellas at our place who use them all year around.

I have heard a lot of people talking about these but i cant see how they will protect the course

We've got the same problem.
I can't see that they'll do less damage than the wheels on my PK 3 wheel pusher so I'm just going to carry. Don't mind spending £25 on something worthwhile but I'm not going to shell out for these.

Hedgehogs are supposed to prevent the wheels slipping and spinning so avoiding the slick patches that you'll start to see on many inclines,

the standard hedgehogs are only intended for push/pull trollies (fitted with a plastic clip on the wheel rim)though there is a version for electrics that you have to screw into the tyre.

I know there was an issue fitting them to go-kart trolleys and needed to be fixed with clips so I'm dubious about putting these on. I heard that they were in talks with the hedgehog people about getting something better but never found out anything further and there is nothing on the site.

I'm in two minds whether to get these for the gokart or use it until the inevitable hedgehog only sign goes up and revert back to carrying.

Ican see both sides.
I can understand a blanket rule being imposed after the greenkeeper is fed up comming across the devastating wheelspin or dig-in tracks leading away from the tee's after overnight rain that collectively makes a mess.

Generally I cant see much difference these hedgehogs will make, most damage I see is often down to over use when the ground is wet, or just simply neglect or ignorance by players. The few people that cannot carry for medical reasons would not make a big difference.

I would prefer them to sort out the people who will not put back divots or repair their pitchmarks first, these are for me the worst evils on the course.Oh and whilst I'm having a rant how do the green keeping staff get around the course? their gear weighs much more than any leccy trolley?
