Had my C/F session this afternoon.

Fisrt thing was to determine the shaft, after a few looseners with my 6 iron, 3 swings with the Mizuno shaft optimiser produced 3 shaft recommendations.

30 minutes or so of trying the different shafts and a combination of how I 'felt' and the data recorded on the Flightscope resulted in settling on the best shaft.

So now onto the irons, I tried the MP53, MP58 and MP63 with the selected shaft. The MP58 was fairly quickly eliminated as I was getting way too much backspin, robbing me of distance.

So now down to the final elimination round, the MP63, a thing of absolute beauty, while feeling super smooth out of the sweet spot didn't quite offer the forgiveness of the MP53. This was borne out by the Flightscope data which showed closer dispersion, more consistent spin and ball flight. But those MP63's mmmmmmmm :p

At this point my heart was probably just overruling my head.

We left that for a while to work out the distances and any problematic gaps at the top end of the bag. The idea being to decide whther to go with a 3 iron, hybrid or Direct Long Iron Replacement MP-FliHi.

Long story short, the 20 deg CLK hybrid with stiff Fubuki shaft gave the most consistent flight.

Back to the irons then, I decided to hit 5 balls with each of the MP53 and MP63. Same results, so those gorgeous 63's will be staying in the factory for a more competent golfer to give them a home and 4-PW MP53 are ordered and will be heading my way soon! :D

Head 1 - Heart 0

The only (small) drawback from the afternoon is that during the fitting it became clear that the shafts in my woods are too soft, which, especially in the fairways, is causing the occasional pull/hook shape. :(

My wallet had run for cover by then though! :D

What about the massive slice you had at Boat of Garten? :D :D :D

I no what you mean Phil after looking at a certain website i ordered a set of Titliest ZB irons with PX5.5 shafts they make my Mizuno's look like shovels haha. I've wanted these for a while ,god knows if i can hit them who cares they look the dogs baws :D :D.

What shaft did you get in your irons?

I had a similar experience last year when a new set of irons were being offered as a Chrimbo pressie. I wanted the I15s but swayed by the forum love in for all things Mizuno gave them a go. I wanted to hit the 63's but couldn't control the 4 iron at all and was dubious with the 5. A similar story with the 53's but only in the 4 iron although I did hit the JPX Pros pretty well throughout.

In the end I've decided to wait and see what the new forged TM clubs are like and go from there

You don't mention me driving the 10th though! ;)

General driving woe's followed last year though, all cured now

If you don't mind me asking, why were you changing from the MX200's?

Nothing wrong with the MX200's - need another set as well as, not instead of!

Aside from that, good call on the irons from the sound of it, though I don't think you mentioned which shaft you went for in them.

Shaft selected is Project X Rifle 5.0

Still less than you mate :D :D. I've liked the look of them for a long time mate so saw a set at a good price and shaft that i've been recommended before so went for it.

New clubs give you a wee buzz about your game again especially if your not enjoying it at the time.
