Has your club/course made concessions for the ladies?

First of all, this isnt a sexist rant.
Our club used to have the occasional water hazard on at least one par 3 on the course. From the way I understand it, the ladies complained that they couldnt hit over it (200yds of the mens white sticks and around 165 to centre from ladies). Since then I think there has been a little apprehension when it came to requests for more drainage/water features.
I think this is unsatisfactory as an excuse and our course, in my opinion, is suffering for it.
Has anyone else had a similar situation where the course is practically being made easier for the less able members?

Not specifically in relation to hazards, but the ladies tees are so far foward of the mens it is an advantage in my opinion. Generally they are about 50 yards forward, but on some holes much further. Where I am using a utility for my secod shot they are using a mid iron. Who is going to end up closest to the pin?
In my opinion they need to do a thorough review. Perhaps ladies with a single figure hcp should be playing off the yellow (between mens and ladies) tees.

On the 12th a bunker that was in the middle of the fairway 70 yrds from the green has been taken away because its in the prime location for ladies approch shots to this par 4, now its a grassy hollow which makes a temporary pond in the winter :D. They complained and it was taken away. On the 17th, Par 3, a bunker used to run along the front of the green but was taken away because ladies can't run the ball along the ground and onto the green, they couldn't carry the bunker and as a result most were having to get up and down. Make note that a lot of the lady members at our club are a little older and the alterations show.

Oh what the hell, I'm amongst friends......:D

We have 2 ladies that I know of that play off single stats, and in fact I played a few holes with one of them just last week, and a superb striker of the ball she was too, very very elegant and fluent swing, a proper golfer.

Apart from that, I think I can hit a wedge longer than most of the other lady members can drive it,

.......and dont get me started on 'courtesy' shots.....:D

*ducks for cover*

For any ladies reading this, your views would be most welcome. Hazards are hazards and to me they shouldnt be removed simply because they make the game a little harder, we just need to learn to navigate round them.
As a result I think our course is a shot or two easier than it could be, simply by not having drains or hazards where they could be naturally beneficial to parts of the course.

I played with one last year, and she was moaning on that on a 150 yard par 3, the grass was too long 25 yards off the tee, and she couldn't get out of it. She wanted a fairway put in, so she could play her 2nd shot off the short stuff.

25 yards, with a driver. Awesome.

Bob - you're being scandalous. Your club should offer 29th February as well - it's only fair.

Dont let Jan hear you!!!!!!!!! :)

Seriously though- At our club off the tee there is always an escape route for the higher handicap ladies if they need it, but we certainly do not take out any hazards on any other part of the course.

We have a par 5 with a road running through it and ditches either side, so they just play a lay up shot and then carry on. If we had water as Brendy has, they probably would do exactly the same.

I am looking forward to the day when we all play off the same tees, no courtesy shots and handicaps to match the mens. I would probably go up to 10 but would be quite happy with that. Until then we are always going to get these discussions about getting concessions, forward tees, different SSS etc.

As a women I do feel that sometimes the men get stitched up but its amazing in the numerous matches against the men, the ladies team , even with courtesy shots , lose.

Men have a huge advantage with their physique. We are just not built the same as you chaps and need all the help we can get!!! :)

All course changes in my view should improve and/or make harder, never easier should it be hazard issue or distance issue. If any player has difficulty on a course they should manage their way round the problem or improve their play standard. Most golfers I know look for challenges (men and women) not ease.
