Harry Kane England call up.

Pretty predictable squad, as they usually are. Not sure how Luke shaw is ahead of Bertrand or how Barkley who's had maybe a dozen good games in his career have made the squad though.

I'm not too bothered if players play for the U21's or the full international, but they shouldn't play for both in a summer tournament, as was mooted for last year - burnout. Play for one or the other.

Burnout don't make me laugh, these guys play once maybe twice a week, train for a couple of hours a day and then are on the golf course or down the bookies.
They should try and work 5/6 days a week on 10hr shifts and still make time to go to the gym/look after the kids then they might have an inkling of what it is like to be tired.
IMO it's a massive cop out saying that a player is tired,in this day and age of fitness and nutrition none of them should be burnt out.
As for the U21 tournament goes, England don't stand a chance as all the clubs will pull their players out, the PL does not support the national team and that is at the route of Englands problems, other countries support the national team hence why they have more success.
Anyway I think Kane deserves his chance in a very Average side.

I hope he does well, he come across as a nice lad.

I'm sure Roy will play him out of pistion though.

I agree that there's a conflict between the PL and the national side and most clubs want the players pulled

Why do you think Torres was washed up by the age of 28?

Why were Owen's hamstrings shot by the age of 27?

What do most managers at home and abroad, advise as a main reason for England's lack of tournament success?

As for the rest of it, did you live in this village:-

Well I'm pretty sure the World cup and Euro's is played at the end of the Spanish and German seasons as well.
Some players just peak younger, in Torres case he lost form, if that's the argument why are all players not washed up by 27? Not a good case.
As for Owen, very quick players are always prone to hamstring problems and injury, you just need to look at Walcott as an example, very few players with exceptional pace last past that age.

IMO Torres lost form due to two reasons -

1. He played more or less constantly for 3 seasons with only about 3 weeks off in the close season, instead of the 6-7 weeks that most get as a minimum. He played in a Euros, world cup and some infernal international tournament 3 seasons on the bounce. He was burnt out.

2. Chelsea broke him.;)

The other countries get winter breaks, which most managers say is massively important.

As people know, I'm not passionate about international football, but doesnt mean I cant have an opinion.

Let Kane go with the full squad OR the U21's but if you send him on both and he only has about 3-4 weeks off, believe me he will be ruined at a young age.

Footballers are athletes these days, and like thoroughbreds, slight knocks lessen them greatly, You cant compare the footballers of 40 years ago with the ones of today, in terms of fitness, athleticism and speed on average.

Burnout is all relative.
Irrespective of how fit and healthy they are. Playing non stop will still give them fatigue be that mental or physical. I don't think anyone could argue with Ronaldos mental strength or physical and yet he still looked tired a few weeks ago.

Yes their life is easier than ours. But that doesn't make them less human. So imo. whilst Id rather have their job than mine. I understand their fatigue.

Goof is just walking and swinging a club. Bt if you played it every day non stop. You'd still burn out.

I can't remember the exact figures but he (Torres) like many of the Chelsea players during that period played something like 30 more games (10+ per season) than most others due to cup runs and Europe domestically and then with his countries responsibilities on top!

Burn out can be a huge factor, just like we can get "golfed out" :smirk:

Torres was a wreck before he went to Chelsea - the 12 months previously he had a serious ankle issue in the previous Jan and it was clear it was effecting him and he was nowhere near fit - he shouldnt have gone to the World Cup as he wasnt fit or ready for it but still went and he just got worse. He scored a few goals in the period from the Aug till Chelsea bought him but he was already running on empty. Lost of his extra yard of pace and sharpness and struggled to get it back. Startign to look sharper for Atletico at the moment.

Although the extra games also have a big effect, only having 3 week pre-seasons 3 years on the run, was the biggest factor.

Rest is a big factor nowadays.

Harry Kane = the new Gareth Bale? Lets hope Real Madrid don't buy him for 100 million and leave him on the sidelines!

England needs a striking talent with his motivation to boot. I think he will do well playing for his country. He will give it his all, unlike certain others, I am sure.
