Happy St George’s Day

You do realise that no-one, anywhere, ever has ACTUALLY been called racist just for celebrating St George's Day don't you?

But Happy St George's Day everyone.

If only that were true☹️Now the flag has been hijacked by various organisations, it is very difficult to show patriotism nowadays

If only that were true☹️

Show me some cast iron evidence that it isn't.

Yes, far right groups have hijacked the flag. But you seemed to suggest that people are widely accused of being racist purely on the basis that they celebrate St George's Day. This doesn't happen.

Article 1: Ben Fogle having a whinge about some nameless and faceless "woke" people who supposedly think St George's Day has racist and xenophobic links. No actual examples given.

Article 2: A church want to reclaim St George's Day from the far right and celebrate it, while standing up to those organisations. Which is what you sort of suggested needs to happen in post 9, so it appears you'd agree with them, no?

If you are celebrating being English today, do you identify as...
A. Celtic
B. Viking
C. Saxon
D. Norman
E. Other
...you may choose more than one category.

Most of us are such mongrels, racism about being English is nonsense, in my view.

Most everyone everywhere is mix of something!

The amusing difference I see as an Englishman (with a mix of Eastern European / Russian ancestors) who lives in Wales is the wildly differing behaviours on local BBC.... St D's day on BBC Wales was hugely promotional about Welsh Identity, Welsh Culture etc in a way you will never see on a BBC English Channel about England. Most nights there will be something on promoting "Welsh-ness" :-)

I wonder if BBC Scotland is similar to BBC Wales?

It's been this way for a while. It's working too, as evidenced by some of the above comments. ;)

I was in Iceland today and was served by a Polish women, as she gave me my receipt I said thank you and she said thank you in return and just as I was about to leave she said "Have a happy St Georges Day", I thanked her, but I was taken aback somewhat, never had anyone say that to me before. This should be in things that gladden the heart

I was in Fiji for three days enroute to OZ in the 1990s. One of the days I was there the shops were shut for a Bank Holiday for Prince Charles's birthday.
