Happy St George’s Day

If you are celebrating being English today, do you identify as...
A. Celtic
B. Viking
C. Saxon
D. Norman
E. Other
...you may choose more than one category.

Most of us are such mongrels, racism about being English is nonsense, in my view.
All of those peoples (Other than Other) you have listed are very closely related as they are all northern European and from similar stock such that it's not correct to suggest they make up a 'mongrel' race.

If a patron Saint means something to the Scots then good for them. I don't think the majority of English give two hoots for the concept. There are many days we could choose a bank holiday for, this isn't one of them, imo.
Name 2 other days.;)

No such thing as a "mongrel race" in my view. I was not suggesting that A to D were different races. I was pointing out that "Englishness" is not a matter of genetic origin and that criticism of a celebration of St George's Day as racist is nonsense.

It really is pointless isn't it? Does anyone genuinely care?

I'm a bit late to this as I was out celebrating it. St Georges flags flying at out house and on every flag pole I've seen today, so I'm going to resoundly say YES !

I'm a bit late to this I was out celebrating it. St Georges flags flying on EVERY flag pole, gosh there a lot of them, I've seen yesterday. So I'm going to say resoundly YES ! And thank God for that ! Made my heart swell that so many people were still patriotic enough to fly their own flag. Long may it continue.

Most everyone everywhere is mix of something!

The amusing difference I see as an Englishman (with a mix of Eastern European / Russian ancestors) who lives in Wales is the wildly differing behaviours on local BBC.... St D's day on BBC Wales was hugely promotional about Welsh Identity, Welsh Culture etc in a way you will never see on a BBC English Channel about England. Most nights there will be something on promoting "Welsh-ness" :)

I wonder if BBC Scotland is similar to BBC Wales?

It's been this way for a while. It's working too, as evidenced by some of the above comments. ;)

Minorities ALWAYS shout the loudest. It's about time the MAJORITY did before they become the minority. (10 years)
