Handicaps and multiple memberships?

How does your handicap get updated when you're a member of 2 golf clubs? I know you can only have 1 home club, but if playing in a competition at the other club - does it not count towards your handicap? Do the 2 secretaries communicate results?

One of your clubs will be classed as your home club. They will maintain your handicap. (Normally the first club you joined).
It's your responsibility to make sure they know of any scores which may affect your handicap. (up or down)

Yes your secretaries should communicate. The away club should send your cards to your home club. (or you can take them yourself) but ultimately you are responsible for your own handicap.

If the clubs are - as most now are - both registered and uploading to the Central Database of Handicaps, then "Away" scores are automatically actioned. We have scores being transferred this way in both directions. Provided both clubs have their players' details properly set up within their systems (including CDH numbers), then it's a dawdle - although the ultimate responsibility still rests with the player to ensure "Away" scores are entered into his record.

I'm in the same boat. When I play the occasional competition at my away club, I notify them of my current playing handicap and they return the card to my home club for processing.

It is also my responsibility to notify the away club of a change in my playing handicap.
