Handicap

At the risk of coming across as a complete noob, how do you get a handicap certificate? I joined a club for the first time this year (September) and put my 3 cards in to get my handicap but I only know what it is because it's on the electronic gizmo in the club house used for entering your scores. Do the club automatically send one out but I just need to wait for the new season to start?

Just phone them and ask them to send/e-mail you one.

At our place you email the secretary or just ask in the pro shop and they will pin it on the board within a few days

clubs vary my previous one you only got a certificate by asking for one whereas the new club i joined this year sent it to me as i forgot to pick it up from behind the bar for 1 week!

Unless you are playing an open comp or playing a course that asks to see it you don't actually need the certificate. However, if your club uses howdidido they may allow you to print a copy from there, otherwise ask your h'cap secretary.

there should be a handicap list posted up on the gents section.

usually the only reason you would require a handicap certificate would be the occasional open competition but even the majority of them don't bother with them.

and the other would be playing certain courses that require you to produce a handicap certificate.

the person to ask to obtain one is the handicap secretary.

Dont worry Andy, I was in exactly the same boat, waiting excitedly after putting in my cards, didnt like to ask, but noticed on the previous months sheet on the notice board, the howdidido details, so checked online and created an account. The following month I was on the notice board as well
