I last played in an official club handicap comp on October 2nd last year and have not re-newed my membership this year but I am struggling to find a new club that ticks all the boxes for me.

My problems questions are,

(a)...When does my handicap become inactive?

(b)...When I finally find a new club how do I get my handicap back to active if it did become inactive?

(c)...Would I regain the same handicap that became inactive in my case 9.4?

I think i'm right in saying that your current h'cap will expire on 31st Dec 2011 unless you record 3 medal rounds. You won't be able to do so unless you are a member of a club.

If you join a new club - all you have to do is get your previous club h'cap secretary to forward your current h'cap on to your new club and that's it transferred.

Otherwise you will have to post 3 cards to get a new h'cap.

If you cease to be a member of an affiliated club then effectively you cease to have a handicap. Your last club will mark it as inactive. When you move to a new club they willusually just transfer the handicap providing the gap is not too big. If it's over 6 months or so they may ask you to submit cards again but your last handicap will certainly be taken into account. I suggest you get a handicap cert from your old club asap as it will make things easier when you join another.

a certificate is not necessary if you have your EGU CDP number.

Could you please explain what this number is and where I would get it from as from 1st April I am no longer a member of a golf club.

Cheers

they were rolled out last year (at least I've had mine since then) and any registered golfer (ie club member paying EGU dues) should have been allocated it. my club gave them out with last years renewal and again with this years.
they last for life so either contact your old club or possibly EGU.

sorry that's CDH - Central database of handicaps.

cdh.egu.org.uk or just Google EGU CDH

Thanks for the info I will check EGU website out tonight :)

If you are a registered member of an EGU affiliated club then register at the EGU website and it will find you. When you sign up it will tell you your lifetime registration number. I just signed up and found out my number within five mins.

A quick note on the above: You will already have a lifetime registration number, but if you sign up on the website, it displays it for you. You will also be sent a credit card sized EGU membership card with your details on.

I just had a look at the website and then realised the club I just left is in Wales....LOL :)

The Golf Union of Wales website does not yet have a handicap database.
