Recent post about playing well this weekend has turned from joy to despair and anguish and i have to take the blame.
Scored 37 pts sat and played medal yesterday--club computer system indicated my handicap at 15.6. Played the medal shot net 69.
Checked results on howdidido to discover i was disqualified from the medal for playing off wrong handicap. I was cut 0.2 for saturdays performance but the system was not updated. Cut by 1 shot for the medal, now down to 14.4. Thats the good news.
I know i am responsible for maintaining my handicap and had intended making a note on my card that handicap should be checked but i forgot and am now paying the penalty. The biggest annoyance is the perception that i cheated, which is something i find unnerving as i endeavour to play this game as honestly as possible.

That seems amiss rgs. You are only responsible for ensuring your score is correct, the committee are responsible for addition of scores, and application of handicap.

Rule 6-6b, & 33-5 :D

Unless you read the decisions which say

'The competitor should be disqualified under Rule 6-2b. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that his correct handicap is recorded on his score card before it is returned to the Committee.'
Seems a bit harsh on you though but I bet you wont do it again

Intersting Rules reference echloon. I had 2 away scores which I duly entered, one a 2 under CSS. These were entered 8 days ago and nothing done. Played 2 comps but was told it was my responsibility to ensure my handicap is correct. It was also said that if there was any doubt I should play off the lower figure.

This was not a problem. My question is : Does it state this anywhere in the Rules please?

I’m sure you’re a honest guy, but don’t go by “how do I do” as they are not responsible nor is the club for not keeping how did I do up to date before a comp ……or at any time for that matter. How did I do is not an official HC keeper.

You said it yourself that you never checked your HC and you also knew you were cut. Sorry mate, you cocked up on this and never use “How did I do” for you official “on the day” playing HC.

34-1b: Exceptions: A penalty of disqualification must be imposed after the
competition has closed if a competitor:

(ii) returned a score card on which he had recorded a handicap that,
before the competition closed, he knew was higher than that to
which he was entitled, and this affected the number of strokes
received (Rule 6-2b); or

leaves it open to debate - did he know? if the change in h/cap was posted then he's at fault, if it wasn't then surely you play to the posted h/cap (though obviously not howdidido); ours are posted in the clubroom.

I always adjust my own HC or I get in touch with one of the HC committee letting them know of any away scores.

Obviously he didn’t deliberately do this but he did know he should have been cut .2 down to 14. Just because the club system’s not updated after the previous comp just doesn’t cut the mustard with comp committees.

In my opinion, keep the phone number of you HC man and consult him if there is any doubt what so ever. In this case there was doubt and I would not have signed my card with that HC until I consulted someone in authority.

I've been disqualified before. :(. Shot 73 in sunday medal got cut down to 10, but forgot to sign my card. Schoolboy error. :S

Tommo 21 to clarify i check our club computer system to check in to play and to record my score after the game. Computer had the handicap at 15.6 and recorded my score as 85-16=69.
If i had played off 15.4 as i should have the scorecard and the computer returned score would have been different-i.e 85-15=70 against 85-16=69.
I will put the HC chairmans phone number on speed dial.
I have learnt a tough lesson.
Thanks for all your comments and constructive criticism.

It's not really your fault is it. You got cut on Sat, took your current h'cap off the computer (or sheet, or whatever) at face value and played off that.

We have sheets and I double-check it as I come out to play if I suspect I may have been cut.

It sounds like one of those things, you thought you were off 15.6 (16), but actually less (15). I guess if you "knew for sure" you'd been cut on 37 points, then I guess I can see the dilema. Be kind on yourself, you wouldn't play off a higher figure than you are if you knew about it......
