Just a quick question. I have handed in details of my away score at Breadsall Priory (found out we have a form at the club and no need for the card) and wondered whether any cut appears on HowdidIdo or whether that only deals with cuts from club comps. If not then I need to drop in and check the notice board.

Once your club updates it's system and downloads the updated info to HDID it will show up. It just depends on how quick your competitions convenor is at updating things like this ;)

Were the organisers of the Breadsall Priory event authorised to run qualifiers? The list of organisations authorised to run qualifiers is on the EGU website.

rosecott, think your looking at elite level golf on that website. Any away score made in an open competiton needs to be returned to your own club asap after the event along with CSS, SSS and any stableford adjustments likely.

To my mind I entered a competition over a measured course off the white tees and so the score goes in. If the club do not accept it so be it but at least I have a clear concious about my handicap.

There is no doubt concerning open competitions being qualifiers but, from my limited knowledge of the Breadsall event, I would question as to whether it was an Open. Affiliated clubs are authorised to run qualifiers for their own members and also to run Open qualifiers on their course. Anyone else seeking to run qualifiers has to be on the aforementioned EGU list - and it's not necessarily elite level.
Some time ago I had a definitive answer from EGU when it was suggested that a Seniors Away Day at another course should be considered a qualifier. The answer was a definite "no" - it would have to be run by the host club with all scorecards processed through the host club's handicapping system. I suspect that the Breadsall event comes under the same heading unless Breadsall administered the event and processed the cards through their system (or GM applies to EGU to be on the list).

Fair point, not sure if the card counts as qualifying or not but that will be down to my club's handicap secretary. All I know is that my concious is clear and when I enter a comp at the weekend it will be with that score having been declared to the club. Maybe I should not be so concerned but when the potential difference is a cut of 2.1 it is pretty big.

You're absolutely right to let your club know - I wish all golfers took that attitude. Although they may not be able to reduce your handicap based on the Breadsall scorecard, your handicap committee can use it, not on its own, but together with other evidence, which could suggest a General Play reduction. Here's hoping there is other evidence available so that you can get the cut you want.
